there was quite a selection in fact i had actually put another torch in my cart when i saw this for a few $ cheaper and since it's a tool i'll use once in awhile i didn't want to spend much. some said the flame kept going out that is common with gas torch and since i'm using it on weeds on driveway , sidewalk and on curb of street it did go out several time but while i had small weeds burning next to the new group of weeds i just swung the wand to the weeds already burning and poof the flame was lite SO EASY . i have the green camping gas in the can and i may have used half of it maybe a little less. very pleased great deal.

I bought this out of desperation after accidentally poisoning too much grass and plants with Roundup. It works better than I hoped, even killing weeds in flammable mulch. I simply wet everything down with water before using the torch to keep from setting a fire. The weeds are killed because they are overheated even though they don’t burn. I am also very pleased with how little propane it uses. Another great use is starting charcoal in a charcoal chimney. The only thing you must be careful of is cross threading the propane bottle when you screw it on. That isn’t the torch’s fault, but the fault of the threads that are standard for all propane bottles.

I heard these things were a great way to control your weeds without the environmentally harshness of chemicals. And they can be...at a price.

It primarily only works well on small weeds with thin leaves. If your weed has a broad leaf then plan on hanging around for a bit to get it to wither and die. In fact the entire process is much more time consuming than spraying the weeds or plucking or hoeing them up. I spent two hours on my front yard. Additionally, this doesn't prevent any weeds from coming up in other places so I spent another hour three days later as more weeds had sprouted near the ones I had fried.

So, it works but is a painfully slow process.

On that second pass on my front yard I found that the igniter would no longer trigger the flame - I had to light it with another source. That's not very comforting as far as any concerns of quality. Also, the collar that connects the wand to the propane tank doesn't turn which requires more finesse when attaching the tank.

I'm sending the defective device back for a refund and going back to using chemicals and tools.

The torch uses the yellow 14 oz canisters of MAP PRO gas. The flame is not very wide which aids with controlling what is being burnt. I use it for weeds along my driveway and weeds in cracks in the driveway that are very difficult to get rid of. The torch is well balanced so I don't get tired using it for long periods. Also it is long enough so I don't have to bend too much which is great for my back. Gas canister lasts for about 4 hours. It does make noise so I do most of my burning during the day so as not to disturb my neighbours in the late evening.
Make sure you are alert when using the torch and when you do get tired make sure you take a rest. Ensure you ware appropriate safety clothes and shoes. Pay attention to where you point the end of the torch to ensure you do not burn yourself, your pets or any thing or person around you.

Setup took 2 minutes. 1) Make sure regulator valve on wand is fully closed. 2) screw in tank counter clockwise. 3) Open valve a little till you hear gas. 4) click igniter 5) burn those weeds!
