Purchased this to replace a KitchenAid Architect Series since it had the same dimensions and would be an easy install in the cabinet. It has a lot less features than the KitchenAid, but still seemed to be a decent oven/microwave combo.

The microwave worked well, and we didn't have the paint peeling problem that many complain about (maybe not enough time has passed). The oven, however, has bothered me since the beginning. There is a blast of hot air and steam that hits you in the face when you open it that is not insignificant. When it first happened to me, I thought for sure others have complained about this. There are some reviews about it, so I know it isn't just my unit. I will put up with a lot and don't complain about products, but this really is bad. It's a wonder it hasn't been recalled. Basically, regardless of what temp or how long its been on, when you open the door, you get hit with a very hot blast of air and steam. I have learned to pull the door open and stand back. If something with high water content is there - veggies or potatoes, for example - you really have to watch out. One time my eyes smarted for a good minute after a blast. I now warn kids to step back, and remind myself. I didn't bring the issue to GE since I figure they'll not be helpful and frankly I didn't want the hassle of bickering back and forth, having someone come out, possible expense, and probably no solution. Based on other reviews I've read, dealing with GE is fruitless.

This week, the unit totally failed. The microwave emitted a 4-beep alarm every minute saying there was a possible short, service may be required. There was no way to stop the alarm every minute until my husband took the panel off. YouTube diagnosis suggested cleaning some of the wire connectors, but ours were totally clean.

The microwave portion of the walloven combo failed after 13 months. The micro wave will not shut off unless the door is left open or the breaker is opened. Apparently this is not uncommon and the problem is due to internal wiring and the control board (according to GE). Estimated repair according to GE is $300. GE will not budge on the 12 month warranty. Mine failed at 13.5 months. I did some research and they are having problems with their microwaves. Things breaks but when the problem is attributed to a control board and internal wiring with 13-14 months of a GE warranty and they won't help, that is just poor product support and frankly service.

We have had nothing but major headaches with this. The broiler sensor shorted out and we had a flash fire in the oven. The microwave paint buckeled and peeled but we were told it was safe to use. Finally it cracked apart like a broken eggshell emitting who knows how much radiation onto us. The oven malfunction was under the 1yr warranty but tho we demanded total replacement we were refused. Now although everyone agrees it needs to be totally replaced the extended warranty folk want to low-ball us to a third ($800) of the original ($2499) Home Depot price. We have been dickering with them and GE for over a month. Still waiting.
My suggestion, run. Run Run...stay far away from this product. They don't even make it anymore.
