biased against JL
on July 9, 2011
First off, this sub is a beast .. No denying it
Build like a f350
Sounds like a Ferrari
Problems with this sub:
SVC 3 ohm ... Common JL wtffff ... Few mono blocks are made different than 1000 rms @ 1 ohm. They try to trap you into buying JL's Monoblock which is (pretty sure) 850 rms @ 3 ohm.
Only way you can get around this is either buying a bigger amp ((2000 @ 1 ohm , 1000 @ 2 ohm , 750 @ 3 ohm , 500 @ 4 ohm) (that is the typical 2000 rms monoblock)) to even come close to powering this sub at its potential.
Other way is to buy another 12w7 to drop it down to 1.5 ohms (i personally dont want 2 subs and defiantly dont want pay for another)
Now with my biasism (made up work i know),
JL (factory is local to me, i should be proud), its just a very expensive manufacture. Forget the retail of this ??$600 or more?? ... please ...
Ive played with subs approx $200-$300 that i prefer over this, FI audio, SI mag, Digital designs (unbreakable), adjacent audio avalanche. Each sub is designed different.
Only 2 reasons I own this sub
1) It is a beast
2) Got it at a ludicrously low price at a local pawn
Few subs to consider @ 1000 rms (these are some of the ones that ive experienced):
AA avalanche (my favorite, one of the lowest hitting subs on the market, had it in a box tuned to 29hz)
SI Mag (was an all around beast)
IDMAX (one of the best sounding subs out there, doesnt hit to hard though)
FI audio Q (awsome sounding sub)
