Here's the Pro's of these buds.... U GET BASS... no questions there... Just to test the "Lower Frequencies" produced I like to use the Rap song "Salt Shaker" By the Ying Yang Twins because the electronic "Kick Bass" reaches the lower registries phenomenally, & that's where these buds "Shined". Kinda like mini-dual 12"s for your ears!!! I Definitely Like!!! They fit ok for me with the smaller covers...good seal...hence-powerful low end bass.
Now for the CONS: out of the package these buds had ungodly amounts of "SIBILANCE"...
as in any music that had cymbals (Which is basically all rock music) created horrible "Ear Piercing" TSSSS,TSSS,HSSS,TSSS,HSSS.....U-get the picture...actually hurts to hear it!!!
So, I burnt them in for 36 hours straight on an Ipod set to repeat the large variety ot tracks I have on it..... It helped a little, but not much....still too HISSY!!! Then I burnt them for another 36 hours straight using a "White Noise & Full-Range Frequency" Studio Monitor testing/burning track...... They still have "HISSSS"....Though not nearly as bad as out of the box.... as in no longer creating "Pain" when listening.... But they simply "Suck" at producing the higher frequencies...ie. crash cymbals, high-hats (Open or Closed) still sound nothing like a cymbal of any type...and this after 72 hours of burn-in....
The mid and upper mid frequencies are dull and muddled at best, not to say they're not there, but they are definitely "Laid Back" and nowhere near the forefront.
My Opinion:
If you're looking for buds that honestly work well with Rap/Hip-Hop, Techno/Electronica, or Club-Style Mixes....GET THESE!!!
But if you want to listen to other styles of music that day, better bring an extra set of different buds with you because these simply will not cut it....

The FX101, along with the JVC FX40, are a huge hit in a massive thread at Head-Fi for sounding incredible at their low price points. I have $300 and $400 full-sized headphones, and yet I don't feel like I'm missing out on much moving to these tiny $20 IEMs. They have a balanced, musical sound with incredible, powerful bass (a good seal is essential). They even have a good soundstage, a sense of space.

I'd rank these guys and the FX40 as the best bargains I've yet enjoyed in audio. They handily beat even the classic PortaPro as a better value by sounding significantly better (clearer, more balanced) at half the price.

I have to agree completely with these spectacular reviews. I own several IEMs, a couple costing hundreds of dollars each, and these definitely have the best bass of the bunch. These IEMs are the next best thing to going to the club. They have ungodly amounts of sub-bass and bass, while the mids, nor the treble, are nothing to laugh at. These sound really phenomenal. I honestly think they would be extremely competitive at $60. These IEM's are just downright nasty with bass-heavy music. The only flaw I've found is slightly boomy mid-bass. It may be playing tricks with my ears though as the mids are mildly recessed in comparison. The mid-bass could just be perceived as boomy due to this.

An aside: If you have a quality amp, such as the FiiO E11 or better, try the bass boost! Unamped, these things are the next best thing to the club. Amped, with bass boost, these things kick so hard. I can honestly say that they are on par with club audio. The sub-bass rumbles and is intimately textured, as is the bass. Mid-bass tightens up amped, too.

Try these earphones! For less than $20 you are practically STEALING from JVC. These are possibly the highest value earphones out there, alongside a properly burned-in HA-FX40. If you are a bass-head, these will satisfy you. I promise.

My husband wanted a new pair of headphones for the gym. I bought these based on the other reviews. So glad I did, normally my husband always finds faults with everything but not these. He loved the color, they fit his ear perfectly and the music sounds great. So he thinks I spent hours researching headphones and thinks I'm awesome. I'm cool with that :)

These HA-FX101's are just amazing for their price. I prefer them even over my Audio-Technica ATH-CKS77 (which cost about 5-6 times more). The sub bass rumble on these is top notch, and the other frequencies are not recessed at all. Very clear mids and highs. Don't pass these up!

As a computer programmer who spends the majority of his time with earbuds in his ears, I LOVE these! I don't have time for a long review, but I do have one this to say. If you're anywhere near as critical about reviews as I am, then don't let the reviewers who rave about the heavy bass scare you away. I assure you, JVC was just as concerned about the mids and the highs as they were the bass when they designed these. I've purchased more expensive earbuds in the past, but I always come running back to these. I honestly don't think I could ask for a better pair of earbuds.

love these head phone just the right base without loosing highs. i have a pair of x3x s but they don’t isolate noise like these do, and these don’t have to be loud to hear the highs for me they are balanced well and i already had another pair of these but read. i had those over a year and used them almost everyday. and finally lost a driver don’t remember which side it was, the cable was not the problem the x3xs are sitting on my desk because the shorted out at the jack. these have separate protected wires and are not a problem ivc have several jvc headphones for there price and sounds they are a great choice. the short was kinda my fualt in the x3xs the got pulled to hard a few times really hard. my brother was using them and splitting and throwing firewood when the got caught several times that day and ripped out the x3x s are excellent for rock and powerful mid range bass they sound like a bigger driver if you compare them to the x101 s here. the x3x s are vented at the back so u can here somewhat better to things around you. nice for around the house so if someone is trying to talk to you can here them and still have some noise isolation enough to clearly hear your music.
