I bought the JVC Home RAP1 for my 9-year old son to use with his iPod Nano. It works as advertised. He can wake to music on his iPod, and it keeps his iPod charged up. It has a battery backup so that it doesn't loose time when the power goes out - this is good for us because we typically loose power a couple of times a year. The only thing I don't like about it is the lack of choice for the display light; its off unless the bar over it is pressed, in which case it comes on for about 5 seconds and then goes out again. For my son this is ok, because he is a light sleeper and the light from the clock might have kept him awake. For someone who likes to glance at the clock at night, in the dark, it might not be ok because the time can't be seen unless the bar is pressed. My daughter has an iHome iPod dock/alarm clock which has similar functions as the JVC RAP1 with the exception that hers has a selectable light for use at night; she likes to have it on all night. I tried out the JVC RAP1 for my son so that a) he wouldn't have the exact same dock/alarm clock as his sister, and b) the power cable for the iHome would make intermittent contact when it was moved around, causing the time to get reset. As it turns out, now that my daughter has stopped using the iHome as a reading light at night, the intermittent contact of the power cable when the device is moved isn't so much of an issue :-)

I love it!! $59.99 at HH Gregg. The only drawback is no remote control. It's a basic portable clock radio ipod dock. Good sound out of small speakers. No speaker adjustment that I could find, so I think with the Ipod you do that with the ipod's internal equalizer settings. This would not be suitable if you are looking for a high powered dock. But I think it is superior for its size and functionality.
Very lightweight-under a pound. Very easy to move and carry around or put into suitcase.
I bought it to use on my kitchen counter so I can listen to ipod music or podcasts while cooking and washing dishes. On my counter I already have a $500 Polkaudio CD/HD radio. It's got incredible sound but in its current place on the kitchen counter, only a couple of radio stations come in. The little JVC picks up every station that I want to listen to..which are not the strongest ones because they are on the left end of the fm dial, and mostly public radio or local college stations.
Although the POlkaudio has an input to hook up an ipod with a cord, I could never get it to work, with either the single pole cord or the one with the 2 rca screw in ends. So, one of the reasons I'm so happy with this besides the quality of the sound and the good design is that it is small enough to add to the counter next to the Polkaudio without crowding the counter.
It does not come with ipod dock adapters so you must buy them separately.

The sound of this small speaker is very good, it's clear and no bass booming, especially when playing music with iPhone and receiving a call, the speaker smoothly fade out and replace with ringtone, no any GSM interfrence noise could be heard. Only ONE thing I'm not satisfied, the iPod dock base, it looks like one size fit for all generation iPod but it too deep for iPhone 3GS, JVC should provides user-changable dock base(like iHome) for iPhone and not just as a accessory.

I have two of these. I really like this product because it doesn't take up to much space. The sound sounds good enough for me. Compactabilty fits in my purse/backback and runs either on power cable or batteries. One downside is you don't get AM radio. I use one at my cabin and can set it in the window sill. So I would recommend this to everyone. Plus features batteries or outlet, size, alarm, FM, IPod. It will also charge your Ipod when using outlet plug. Downside is no AM radio and with batteries it doesn't charge your IPod.

I bought this for my office - Its compact slim size is perfect(it is slightly larger than my stapler). The sound is amazing for such a small device. I mean, it isn't going to blow your socks off, but how loud are you going to play your music at work? The radio gets pretty good receiption, but I find I have to move it around to the other side of my desk in the afternoon or if it is raining.

Also, you can't beat the price. So if it gets lost, stolen or coffee spilled on it, it is just cheap enough that I won't be upset.

I couldn't ask for anything more.

Looked really small in person but when it started playing, it sounded big and good! The only gripe I had was how to set FM presets but finally figured it out. To set FM presets, press source to FM. Press >/= once so that P01 shows. Immediately press & hold >/= until P01 flashes. Press I<< or >>I to switch from P01 to P02 or which ever Preset channel you'd like to assign an FM station to (P01 or P02, etc. will continue to flash). Then press I<< or >>I to go to the FM channel you'd like to preset. Once at the selected FM station, P01 will show and flash. While P01 is flashing, press >/= once so that P01 stops flashing. That FM station has now been set to P01 or P02 or whichever Preset channel you assigned it to. I hope this helps. I thought it was a defect but it was really JVC's inaccurate directions in their user manual.
I will order a second one for myself (This one is going to my daughter who lives in the Philippines).
