So, if that IS the case, why the upscale in price by nearly 600%
First and foremost: this thing works. And it works marvelously; does it completely remove plosives? No; and I doubt there is a material in this world that CAN without changing the frequency response of your audio. And that right there is the key element; the reason this thing is 6x more expensive than a standard nylon pop filter is because it leaves the acoustic properties of your performance unaffected whilst doing an amazing job at catching plosives.
But if you don't believe me, here's a shootout I made between 4 different pop filters, including the JZ-PF: http://youtu.be/XVNGelVyyHE
Beyond functionality, the build quality is the best I have seen on any pop filter; it's rugged, the plastic is high quality, the tightening knob turns smoothly, it creates a strong, reliable grip on the stand, the goose-neck is pliable, yet sturdy and stiff, and the whole thing just looks damned gorgeous.
So, Brass Tacks: do you NEED this item? No. But, if you ARE having troubles with plosives in your recordings (like I did) and ordinary pop filters just aren't cutting it, pick up this bad boy right now. It might seem like an outlandish price, but it's definitely worth it (especially if you are making professional recordings).
The clamp is solid and stays put, the gooseneck is not too flexible, and the unique filter design does a great job of preventing plosives. It's definitely worth the money if you don't want to waste your time removing plosives in your audio editing software.
I'm reducing my rating from 5 to 4 stars. The mesh filter is great, it is the best of the filters that I have tried so far for reducing plosives. But the goosneck is annoying. It's better than the other pop filters I own, but there is a general deficiency with goosenecks which is that they are inclined to move after you position them. I think a solid arm with joints would work better so I am going to look at other options.
Yes it is the best pop filter ever.
I am doing a lot of voice over including mostly podcast and audiobook and this pop filter is amazing indeed.
I think nothing more to say.
Thanks a lot :)
