I can see by the pictures other buyers have posted that they received genuine Jaccard tenderizers. I did not. What I received was a knock-off of questionable quality. That is what I am giving two stars. I have a Jaccard, they are great, so it's a shame that Amazon is selling this junk as the real deal.

I just pulled this out to use as I haven’t been cooking a lot. We have an old one at our vacation house and it works beautifully. I purchased this one in April 2018. It is a complete failure. It gets stuck when I try to push it into the meat and the blades will not come out. If I wiggle it and slide it back and forth I can get them to come out but then I can’t push it into the meat has I have to hold it with both hands. Apparently they are making a cheaper version that does not work. Very disappointing. I am beyond the window return even though this is the first time I ever used it and it is defective.

To clean this tenderizer was simply a nervous process. (Nevertheless I found out how great the meat tastes from using it.) This model does not disassemble easily. Who wants to unscrew 3 bolts and handle sharp blades? I went to www.jaccard.com and watched the video of another model in black color that is sold on amazon as Jaccard Simply Better Meat Tenderizer Knife 45 Blade Model: 200345NS. The video showed the black model disassembles and reassembles literally in seconds. No screws to mess with. Tonight I placed order to buy two of the black ones. That is the answer to truly easy cleaning meat tenderizer. No more sleepless night for me thinking how to clean a meat tenderizer.

I had one of these for many years and it finally wore out and was having trouble retracting the blades so I purchased a new one. The first one was worse that my old worn out one. It would hang up and not retract, did not work smoothly at all even after we oiled it as instructed. The return was easy and the replace one seems to work OK, though it still doesn't work as smoothly as the old one did, which is exactly the same model/style. But will keep it because it does make steak so much more tender and with the multiple blades, does it quickly.

Did not work right-blades hit bottom guard/guide plate

I have this same type but with removable cartridge by the same company, and it works really well. But as I have to remove the cartridge to properly clean it, and it's a few years old now, I figured to replace it with this simpler no cartridge model. However, the one I received when compressed to puncture the meat, wants to hit the plastic bottom guard and impede the blade movement. Unusable. Returned it. I'm sticking with the model I have for now I guess.

I've been using this same Jaccard tool for over 20 years and have given many as gifts... and my old one still works great. *However, the last one I bought showed that they 'drastically' reduced their quality control... so much so that it does not even work at all... jambs up repeatedly. Years ago these used to cost about twice this much... reduction in quality explains how they reduced the price. I contacted Jaccard directly and they denied the obvious reduction is quality and function. They offered to send me a replacement 'if' I shipped it to them 'at my expense'... no point. Lousy customer service. I returned it to Amazon for a refund. After all these years I'll never buy a Jaccard product again. It's sad to see how they're destroying their prior great reputation.

An excellent tenderizer for steaks or any other meat. A word of caution, the spring action makes it hard to push down which tends to flatten the meat. If I would have suggested any improvements, it would be to make the spring action more gentle. But it works really good for cheaper cuts of steak that need to be tenderized. Also helps using it before marinating to get more of the flavor into the meat. Put in on the top rack of the dishwasher for cleaning to sanitize it for the next time it is used especially since you use it on raw meat.

Strong spring, sharp "knife" blades.

I got this because the little round tenderizer with a bunch of needles on it didn't do the job. This one is 48 blades and has a strong spring mechanism. I wash it in the upper rack of the dishwasher. I dont take it apart. Meat has gotten much tougher over the last several decades & even a ribeye marinated with a vacuum-sealed container still comes out too tough. This product made a big difference on a pot roast & I'm next going to do a top round for chili, then a ribeye. With meat as mediocre as it is today, you need one of these!
