About Jacek Debiec
Jacek Debiec is a psychiatrist, neuroscientist, and philosopher. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and an Assistant Research Professor in the Michigan Neuroscience Institute, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He received his MD from Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland where he completed a psychiatry residency and doctoral studies in transcultural psychiatry, during which he investigated the phenomenon of possession trance. He also holds a DPhil. in philosophy of science from JP II Pontifical University in Krakow, where he studied with Michal Heller, Jozef Tischner, and Jozef Zycinski. As a Herbert Fellow, Dr. Debiec studied transcultural psychiatry at the University of Vienna. As a Fulbright Fellow, he trained in neuroscience with Joseph E. LeDoux at New York University, where he completed his second residency in psychiatry and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry, during which he conducted research with Regina M. Sullivan. Jacek Debiec studies the neurobiological mechanisms of emotional learning, including reconsolidation of emotional memories and parental regulation of infant fear and safety learning. His other interests include philosophical issues in psychiatry and sciences.
