Thus, I started reading this book with the hope that it would be an entertaining book but with the fear that it would be another badly written book. I was pleased to discover that this was not the case. Spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc. all met the high standards that I would expect from a professionally written and edited book.
I suspect that this is the first novel written by this author. The beginning of the book was a bit stilted but the author pretty quickly managed to rise above this level and turned out an entertaining book. He even managed to bring a new point of view to this genre.
I would rate this as a four star book based solely on the beginning of the book. Ultimately, however, it was a very entertaining book. I certainly would not hesitate to purchase the next book in the series. I recommend this book with the small caveat that I think it took the author a chapter or two to get his writing style up to a fully professional level. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
With the help of a drow cop, a police officer, and an elven associate--they end up fighting a god. It's a good little story and I very much enjoyed it but I do think it had pacing issues. It goes from zero to 100 very quickly then back to zero. My only real complaint was I was confused about the relationship between the fantasy refugees, humanity, and what races were present on Earth to begin with.
I like Jack, however, and will definitely read the sequels.
Unfortunately all the ingredients aren't quite simmered to perfection, but honestly, it was pretty close. Looking forward to the second book.
