In Whiskey Sour, Chicago police Lieutenant Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels hunted down a killer dubbed "The Gingerbread Man."
In Bloody Mary, she busted a psychopath with a penchant for dismemberment.
In Rusty Nail, it was a serial killer with a doozy of a family tree.
And now, in Dirty Martini, Jack faces her toughest adversary yet: a sicko who's poisoning the city's food supply. But that's just the start of what he has planned, because he's aiming to kill fifty thousand people in the single biggest act of terrorism the US has ever seen. Can she stop him — and decide whether to accept boyfriend Latham's surprise proposal — without destroying both her reputation and her sanity?
Join Jack, her partner Herb, and her nemesis Harry McGlade, for her fourth, and greatest, case so far.
F U Z Z Y N A V E L
Things are going well for Lieutenant Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels of the Chicago Police Department. She has solved some of the city's toughest and most high-profile homicides. Her personal life is finally in order. Her friends and family are safe and happy. And she just got a call that eased her mind like nothing else could: Alex Kork, one of the most dangerous criminals Jack ever arrested, killed herself while in jail.
But things sour quickly when a group of vigilantes on a murderous spree decide to take down a cop and the people she cares about ... and they turn downright awful when Jack discovers that Kork may not be dead after all.
Trapped in her house with a psycho and everyone she cares about, and unable to leave because she's surrounded by snipers, the next eight hours will be the worst of Jack's life. And that's saying something.
Fuzzy Navel is Jack's fifth adventure, perfect for readers who like their mysteries with a shot of humor.
C H E R R Y B O M B
At the end of Fuzzy Navel, J. A. Konrath surprised readers with an agonizing cliffhanger: One of Lieutenant Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels's loved ones is dead. But who? Readers were left clamoring to know more.
Cherry Bomb, the sixth Jack Daniels mystery, opens at the funeral. While Jack stands graveside, tears in her eyes, her cell phone rings. It's the killer, escaped maniac Alex Kork, taunting Jack, drawing her ever further into a twisted game of cat and mouse. Because while Alex is more than willing to kill random victims, Jack is her true prey. But which woman wants revenge more?
Cherry Bomb is J. A. Konrath's most gripping novel of suspense yet—filled with twists and turns that will keep readers on the edge of their seats.
If you are a more sensitive (or adventurous) reader, the Konrath scale rates specific categories from 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest) to give you some idea if this is your kind of book.

From the Inside Flap
Q: Did you always want to be a writer?
Joe: No. I wanted to be a model for husky pants. But then, when I was barely a teen, they stopped making husky sizes.
Damn those clothing designers for shattering my dreams.
Q: When did you decide to become a writer?
Joe: I mean, I'm not offended by the term "husky." Now they're called "relaxed fit" jeans. It's the same thing, but there's nothing sexy about being a "relaxed fit jeans" model. Husky sounds like you're owning those extra pounds, making them work for you. Relaxed fit sounds like you eat too much and are just plain lazy.
What was your question again? Ideas? I hunt through James Patterson's garbage, and steal what he tossed. When Patterson throws out ten pages, that's like fifty chapters.
Ha ha ha! Get it? Because his chapters are so short! I swear, the last Patterson book I read had more chapters than page numbers.
Actually, I just watch old Outer Limits episodes and appropriate the plots, like Alan Moore did with Watchmen.
Q: Who do you like to read?
Blake Crouch, Ann Voss Peterson, Jeff Strand, Henry Perez, F. Paul Wilson, Tom Schreck. Pretty much anyone I collaborate with. Because here's a dirty little secret: when you co-write a book with someone, you kind of have to read the stuff they wrote.
My absolute favorite author is Dr. Seuss. In fact, I tried my hand at writing a few Dr. Seuss-style children's books. Here are the titles:
HOW THE GRINCH STOLE MY WIFE
HORTON HATCHES A TERRORIST PLOT
ON BEYOND DONKEY PUNCH
MARVIN K MOONEY WILL YOU PLEASE DROP DEAD
THE CAT IN THE HAT GETS NEUTERED
GREEN EGGS AND E COLI
THIDWICK THE BIG HEARTED COKE DEALER
MR. BROWN CAN MOO, AND THEY PUT HIM AWAY
THERE'S A WOCKET IN MY POCKET, AND I BLAME CIALIS
BOOMER THE TUMOR
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to sell any of these. I think it may be some sort of rights-issue thing.
Q: What's a work day in the life of Joe Konrath like?
Joe: I wake up early and make some eggs.
Then the smoke alarm goes off, because the eggs are burning because I fell asleep again.
Then I spend ten minutes explaining to the firemen that show up how I'll be more careful next time.
I go back to bed, and the next thing I know, it's around noon. Time for lunch. I want to make an egg sandwich, but I'm out of eggs. And bread. And pretty much everything except some sort of fruit that's been in the refrigerator forever and might be a lime. Or not. It may not even be fruit. So I put it back and think about cooking some pasta but that seems like a lot of work for just lunch, so I go take a nap.
Around three I get up, ready to start my work day, but first I need to eat something. Do pizza places deliver at three? I make a few calls. Nope, no one delivers before five.
I check the fridge. The lime thing is still there, but it looks like it moved from where I saw it last. How odd. Did it move by itself? I'm really hungry, so I decide to give it a try.
It's not a lime, because limes don't have bones.
When I finish eating, I sit down at my computer and write my daily quota, thirty pages.
Q: What's next for Joe Konrath?
Joe:This Spring, Carson's will be releasing my signature scent, called Nocturnal Emission. Available in parfum, eau du toilet, cologne, and roll on. I like the roll on. It tickles my armpits. My goal is to make enough money to buy Nebraska. Then I'll rename it Joebraska, and invite all of my friends to visit. We're going to have a big party in the state capital, Joemaha. You can come, if you want.
Q: Do you want to talk at all about your books?
Joe: Nope. Not really.

About the author

Joe Konrath has written over a dozen novels in the Lt. Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels thriller series. They do not have to be read chronologically to be enjoyed, but the order is: Whiskey Sour, Bloody Mary, Rusty Nail, Dirty Martini, Fuzzy Navel, Cherry Bomb, Shaken, Stirred (with Blake Crouch), Rum Runner, Last Call, White Russian, Shot Girl, Chaser, and Old Fashioned. More coming soon.
If you love Jack Daniels and her cast of supporting characters, you should know about the Jack Daniels and Associates Mysteries, which include the titles Dead On My Feet, Dying Breath, Everybody Dies, Shot of Tequila, Serial Killers Uncut (with Blake Crouch), Jack Daniels Stories Vols 1-4, and Banana Hammock.
Wow, that's a lot of Jack.
If you like your thrillers on the dark side, check out the Konrath Dark Thriller Collective, which includes the books The List, Origin, Afraid, Trapped, Endurance, Haunted House, Webcam, Disturb, What Happened To Lori, The Nine, Close Your Eyes, and Second Coming.
Joe also wrote the Stop A Murder mystery puzzle series, where you become the sleuth and solve brain teasers to try and catch a killer.
He also wrote the sci-fi trilogy, Timecaster, Timecaster Supersymmetry, and Timecaster Steampunk. Even if you don't think you like sci-fi, give them a try. They feature Joe's well-known characters from his other series, and are insane.
With Ann Voss Peterson he wrote the Codename: Chandler thrillers, including Flee, Spree, Three, Hit, Exposed, Naughty, Fix (with F. Paul Wilson), and Rescue.
And, finally, he wrote erotica under the pen name Melinda DuChamp, also with Ann Voss Peterson.
Joe writes a lot. You should probably read everything.

The main character, named Jack Daniels (male name, hard alcohol--yep, definitely one-upping the male writers, if in name only), was extremely shallow. In order to feminize her hard core detective the author has her thinking in brand-name details about her clothes all the time. Even after someone very close to her winds up in the hospital and isn't expected to live she spends a lot of time thinking about what she'll wear to work. I get that this is supposed to be a fascinating contrast to her pseudo-male hardness, but it just comes off as bizarre, unnatural, and unfeeling. If the author had indicated that the character was focusing on these details to keep her fear of what could happen to her loved one at bay, that would be different. But no, it's just treated as normal behavior for our "heroine."
And then there's her immediate attraction to a "hottie" FBI agent despite just moments earlier telling the man in her life she loves him. It's really hard to get behind her when she reveals herself to be horrifyingly callous about the man she loves as she indulges in her shallow attraction to the agent. She does eventually say no before it goes too far, and figures out some of her problems in the process, but it's done so lightly and shallowly with scarcely any real feeling that she doesn't come off as any deeper than a dirty martini.
Then there's the absurd number of times cops around her get killed but she manages to survive every event with a few bumps and bruises. This happens so often that by the end, in the big climax, I was bored with the idea of her surviving yet another "unsurvivable" situation. Since I figured the next two books would be more of the same I closed out the collection then and there.
This was a highly forgettable book--since I skipped the gratuitously graphic parts--but it was well-written, so there is that.
Another psycho going about injecting or spraying a toxin on foods, shoes, making people suddenly die. Chief puts Jack as the lead, some don’t like the calls she makes while trying to grasp what is going on. It is scary and hits home for Jack when Latham gets sick from the food she brought an the deli. Fast action from beginning to the end. With a surprise for Latham from Jack at the end.
FUZZY NAVEL
Jack and Herb her partner called to a murder scene, was done by a sniper. Now sniper is shooting at them, and Herb got hit in the calf, one of her men is killed. Trying to call her Mom or Latham goes to voice mail, then a call to come home, something is wrong. Alex is alive, not a suicide in the jail as she had just been told. Her mother has duct tape over her mouth. Jack is to get Harry over to the house, did he pick up the odd message. The next hours are tense, gritty, and violent who will come out alive.
CHERRY BOMB
It opens at a funeral, a love one for Jack is gone, for having loved the wrong person. This has changed Jack, the cat and mouse game with Alex is deadly. Things changed a badge is turned in. Revenge is her motive to be sure this time that Alex is dead. Will she become a PI and still hunt the bad guys. Tense to the ending, with questions of how the next in series will be about.
Being a huge fan of thriller/horror I found it difficult to find writers that will give me goose bumps (or even gross me out, lol). I luv the gore like in the Saw movie series and this writer came the closest to that type of horror/gore/thriller that I've read.
Each of the characters that Jack Daniels comes across draws you into their trap (one way or the other), you turn the pages while on the edge of your seat, knuckles turning white from holding your blankie in one hand and "book" in the other, waiting with baited breath to find out what happens next.
The price for these ebooks are phenomenal, unlike those of the Steven King, Dean Koontz, etc. I do like the writings of the afore mentioned authors but when you can get the same thrill for a fraction of the price, why not.
I highly recommend these writers, it is also worth mentioning that J.A. Konrath is the name the author uses when writing horror/thriller, I have also read his mystery/suspense penned under his name Jack Kilbourne.
Top reviews from other countries

I've now read them all, finishing with "shaken" and "stirred". It's taken me 3 days afterwards to catch up on enough sleep that I feel normal again. They had me totally gripped so that I would go to sleep at 4 or 5AM because I simply could NOT PUT THEM DOWN!
Enjoy.
