This is a book not really meant to be read word for word, beginning to end. It is a repetitive reference work that details public records of births, deaths and marriages related to the Maybrick family. It also repeats one newspaper article after another describing the trial of Mrs. Maybrick. To be perfectly honest, I skipped a lot of pages in this book.
The saving grace is to be found in Appendix 1 - Michael Barrett's Confession dated January 5, 1995 and Appendix 2 - Michael Barrett's Confession dated January 25th 1995 where the creation of the diary is described.
If you are interested in all things surrounding the infamous Jack, you may find nuggets locked away in the data this book offers. If you are looking for your next Ripper read, you might want to give this a pass.
