Great item to have in a power outage

Great item to have in a power outage
I use my Jackery Explorer 160 to power table lamps during a power outage. I live in a rural area near the end of our power line and we often get power outages after storms. I have a Jackery Explorer 1000 to run the Maytag Refrigerator/Freezer but the Explorer 160 is really handy for the table lamps and other small items around the house.I Ordered my first Jackery Explorer 160 on June 01, 2020 from Amazon.com and it arrived a few days later VIA UPS. I chose the Explorer 160 because it has 167 Watt Hours of usable power in a light weight easy to carry case. The Explorer 160 has AC output and the DC output from the car port is regulated at 13.3 volts DC. This means you can still use it for those DC loads after the battery has less than 50% charge as well as at 100% charge. It is easy to recharge from AC utility power, Solar Panels or your car.My primary reason for purchasing the Explorer 160 is to provide lights when we have a power outage. I have tested it with several LED & CFL lights that can be used in table lamps and the best one is a 15 Watt GE Soft White 1600 Lumens LED light, It draws 19 Watts and the Explorer 160 will power it for 6 Hours from 100% to 28% battery charge levels. The fan runs and it is very quite. I place the LED light bulb in a small table lamp and it can be moved as needed. You probably already have LED's in your table lights so just use one of those.I also tested a 5 Watt Onite 400 Lumens USB LED light for 6 Hours and the charge only changed from 100% to 75%. Any of these choices are a big improvement over my LED lanterns that start out bright but quickly dim unless you run them on low power.I have a solid state Oscilloscope that the Explorer 160 can power for several hours and that makes one of my best pieces of test equipment truly portable. I have a UPS to protect my desktop computer that gives me 20 minutes of runtime in a blackout but if I plug the UPS into my Jackery 160 I can extend the operating time at least one more hour.I also have a small Honda Inverter generator but I have to go outside to set it up. I an not fond of going outside in the middle of a storm and the Explorer 160 will be used first.I have tested and used it for several weeks and I was pleased enough to purchase two additional Explorer 160s and retire my LED Lanterns.Last week I was showing a friend my newly acquired Explorer 160 and the Jackery SolarSaga 100 watt panel in operation and he wanted to take it home with him. Guess I put on a good demo.Added Some Pictures: Lights, Oscilloscope, Jackery Explorer 160 Waveform and some fans. Note that the E160 runs my Oscilloscope just fine and the wave form was taken while powering the Oscilloscope with the help of a isolation transformer.

I know you are looking at the Jackery Explorer 160 and trying to figure out if it’s a good investment or not…trust me, it is. It works, it does what it does well and after doing a lot of research, buying a good bit of equipment and even trying to build one of these things myself, Jackery is truly the master at what they do.
I looked at the competition and no one comes close.
Jackery has created a very small and compact device that essentially allows you to have a portable rechargeable electrical outlet, wherever you need it.
The Jackery Explorer 160 is amazing. It’s very light, uses 18650 batteries as the power supply, has a stable inverter supplying clean electrical power for your sensitive devices, it has two USB ports to power your phone, tablet, iPads, iPhones, etc. as well as a USB C port. It has a connection for a 12 volt cigarette lighter outlet and even a flashlight!
The whole thing is small, lightweight, well built, has an integrated display and you can selectively turn on whatever you need or don’t. You can see how much is being used if something is plugged in, you can see how much is going into the unit if you’re charging it and you quickly can figure out how much power you’re using and how long you have left.
Charging it is a breeze as it recharges quickly (faster than I thought) and it can be charged from the wall, the car or a solar panel.
What’s not to like!
Trust me, I tried to build something like this while in grad school…it didn’t come close.
What they’ve done is amazing. You can find inverters that supposedly supply clean power, but many that I’ve tested had inadequate (unsafe) output, and figuring out how to supply the system without having all sorts of adapters, wiring and chargers is a challenge.
You can trust the Jackery 160 and their other product line to provide safe and reliable power for your devices.
I believe so strongly in their equipment that I now have two Jackery Explorer 160’s, a Jackery Explorer 240 a Jackery PowerBar and a Jackery SolarSaga 60 solar panel. I teach online and constantly need computer equipment going. Our family of six lives along the coast and we’re no stranger to hurricanes, power outages and dealing with trying to keep our equipment charged. Often when we travel, we have numerous iPhones, iPads, notebooks, etc. with us. The Jackery 160 is our first line of defense in powering these things, especially when we don’t have a wall outlet readily available.
In saying all of the above, buy it…it’s really worth it, it’s well built and should give you very good service for years. One last thing, Jackery stands behind their equipment and if you email them about anything dealing with their products, you’ll get a very good and comprehensive answer in less than 24 hours.
You don’t need to keep looking…this is the one to buy.

Hi guys, today we’re going to talk about the Jackery. This thing has an amazing power level. It does not get hot. It is very portable and a great power source. Here’s the ups and downs. It is very versatile for charging your cell phones, laptop, camera things of that nature. However, it’s functionality does not allow you to run heavier items with a heavier load, such as a coffee pot, or anything with a higher draw. So all in all yes for a starter power supply for great nights camping a couple nights out make sure you don’t lose power on your cell phone or your laptop or if you were a photographer and you were going out taking pictures. this is your item very high-quality product very well crafted.

First impressions. Weighs 3bs 15oz, just under 4lbs, love the size and build of the 160 Power Station. About cube-like size, 7" long x 4 3/4" wide x 6 3/4" high including the handle.

Included with the unit are a DC to car adapter cable, Car Adapter charger, AC Charger wart and separate detachable AC cable, User manual, and zipper pouch.

This 160 is the only Power Station of Jackery that has the USB C port. My 6P charges at over 2.4A when the battery gets low, so pretty fast for a phone with charging issues. USB A charges at standard rate of 1.4A for my phone, typical of what I see with other USB A chargers.

AC recharges the 160 at 42W. If the user is charging their devices, the screen will show wattage input minus wattage output. For example, if I am charging the Jackery and at the same time, I am charging my phone at 13W, the display will show 29W in (42W-13W=29W). I think that's pretty neat feature.

Digital screen - lit, user can press the display button to have it light up for 13 secs for easier viewing.

Led light is very efficient, no drop in percentage on the display with over 3 hrs constant ON. Station feels cool, fan did not come on, Station did not get warm.

120v outlet has slot for ground so plugs with ground can also be inserted, no need for an adapter to convert to 2 prong. The 160 can handle up to 100W constant and has a 150W rating for surge.

Anytime the user switches on the AC outlet, the fan automatically comes on. This is regardless of how much draw your device pulls, even if it is off, even if nothing is plugged in. Fan is not loud, fairly quiet, but is constant ON, my guess is it is a feature for safety and keep the 160 from overheating. The fan will also use 3W once button is switched on. If you are one to be bothered by fan noise, it's a good idea to position the Station either further away or at the very least with the fan facing away from you.

I find the zippered pouch a little too small/tight for packing all the accessories in it. The pouch fits all the accessories easily and will fit in the separate charging wart and charging cable, but that's dependant on how neatly one wraps up the cables and such. Would have liked to see a larger pouch.

While I do not camp much, I still find this 160 very useful when we're out and about. It's small and light enough, plus strong enough capacity that friends and family can all either utilize it's charging capacity for their each individual device, whether a toy, notebook, tablet, phone, etc. Also, I love having this small unit to keep small pumps running for example on my fish tanks during power outtages. I have used this to charge up and run my 14" notebook off it. Even charged up and ran a large 17" gaming notebook. While I haven't tested the 17" notebook running a game, general usage appears fine. YMMV depending on device/model, of course.

I would have loved to see some sort of jump starter inclusion but this is too small of a unit. Perhaps on a future or larger Jackery Power Station. I would definitely buy one so I don't have to carry this and a lithium battery jump starter in my vehicle. Jackery, paying attention?

Note, this smaller unit does NOT have pure sine wave so if anyone is looking for the pure sine wave, you will have to go with the next larger Jackery Power Station. Jackery's 240 and the 500 both have pure sine wave. The 240 is twice the weight so for camping and outdoor traveling use, that is something to consider. This 160 is the only one that has the newer USB C port, I don't see USB C on the 240 and 500 units.

Finally, Jackery is very quick and helpful when I tested and contacted them with questions and for information. This is very important because I base my purchases not purely on price, but pre-sale and post-sale support as well.

UPDATE: Oct 8 2018, strangely I have found myself using this more at home than charging my devices with an AC plug. Never would have thought that I enjoy using this. I find it is so convenient moving to where ever I want, for examples, different room, basement, garage, workshop and just charge and use my devices. Also, checking the display show exact draw and battery "life" left, is almost addictive to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very convenient and versatile high-capacity power station
Reviewed in Canada on August 20, 2019
WHAT I LIKE:
➠ Great balance between capacity, charging options / features, and size / weight
➠ Love the carrying handle
➠ Built in flashlight is actually powerful enough to be useful (unlike some other portable chargers I've used)
➠ The LCD displays actual power draw (output) in watts - this is very handy for seeing just how much power a particular device is using.
➠ Good capacity - I was able to charge my phone twice (3500 mAh battery), a few camera battery charges (via USB), power my pump to inflate my car tires (about 5 psi each; via DC car plug), and there's still about 30% left. In terms of comparison to typical portable USB chargers, the capacity of this power station is 46,400 mAh according to the Amazon product page. From that perspective: (1) that is much higher capacity than typical portable USB chargers, and (2) the amount of charging it actually provided for me is consistent with the Jackery having a discharge efficiency of about 60%, which is fairly typical for portable USB chargers (although maybe on the low end of typical). In other words, the claimed capacity seems to be reasonably accurate.
➠ Powerful enough to power at least some air pumps (even though the product description says it's not appropriate for that). For example, as mentioned above, it was able to power my car tire pump, which according to the Jackery's readout was drawing about 85 watts. This would come in very handy for inflating small inflatable boats, etc.
➠ Looks cool!
➠ Very versatile: 2 USB-A charging ports, 1 USB-C charging port, DC charging port (a female DC adapter is included, which is awesome), AC charging outlet - these options cover pretty much every kind of charging option one would need, without the need for additional adapters
➠ Supports pass-through charging (except for DC charging), which means you could be charging the power station at the same time as charging USB devices through the power station, and therefore not needing additional USB wall adaptors.
➠ LCD display is backlit, so it's easy to see in the dark

WHAT COULD BE IMPROVED:
➠ No fast charge! Not having fast charge capability on a device like this is a significant downside. Implementing that would make this device so much better.

THINGS TO NOTE:
➠ When using the AC charging outlet, a fan turns on inside the power station, creating a bit of noise. It's not particularly noisy, but you can hear it - just something to be aware of if complete silence is important for you.
➠ It's purely a function of the capacity being so high, but note that this power station cannot be taken on airplanes (at least in North America)

OVERALL IMPRESSION: I love the versatility and capacity of this power station. It will definitely be my go-to portable charging device for things like camping trips, days at the beach, road trips, etc. For things where size and weight are more important though (hiking / backpacking, airplane travel, etc.), I'll continue to use my smaller and lighter portable USB chargers.

I use this at home. We have regular blackouts. I love this thing. It runs my internet and keeps my cell phone charged when the lights go out. Sometimes I will use it when my phone/tablet is dead but I want to be in the backyard and listen to an audio book. I have even taken it on long drives because my old car only has one charging outlet on the interior of the vehicle and that is dedicated to my Garmin GPS. This is definately a useful item. Totally recommend it.

I bought this for a bunch of different reasons. From camping to power outages it's always worth it to have this charged and ready to go. It has one outlet that you can plug anything into. I mostly use it for recharging other devices but it could also power other things if needed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love This Little Unit!

I love this little Jackery! I bought this to augment my Goal Zero Yeti 1400, which I need to power a CPAP machine. I wanted something smaller to power LED lights and other small things when I’m camping, so I don’t risk running down the big unit. I love this little thing!

I can carry it with one hand, so I’ve been using it a lot even at home, if my tablet or Kindle runs low and I want to keep reading. It fits in about the same space as a coffee mug or two, so I can have it anywhere.

It’s perfect as an emergency backup if the power goes out, because it has a built-in LED flashlight. It charges quickly from household current.

I paired it with a 40 watt solar panel from Amazon, which was cheaper than the recommended one from Jackery. Since I’ll normally have the Goal Zero when I’m camping, I can charge this unit from that, but a small solar panel gives me a bit more flexibility.

This would also be great for road trips. It can charge from the car battery, and make it easier for charging devices. Not every hotel room or friend’s guest room has a convenient outlet for charging!

It has its limits, but its size and portability make this a truly great small power source in many situations.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great but could be better

Overall I like it. However, there are some limitations to be aware of.

DC output issue: Like all the portable power station vendors, there is no 6.3mm barrel connector to female cigarette adapter cable. There are a lot of reviews that mention this issue. The problem with this is that it makes the 12V DC port useless unless you have this cable. Goal Zero made this cable but stopped making it within the last year or so and there is nowhere else to get it. Luckily, I contacted Jackery support and they knew right away what I was after and sent me the cable at no charge. It was exactly 2 weeks by the time I got it from first contacting them (Canadian urban destination). The DC port worked fine to its 84W max... which is less than you'll get out of a standard vehicle 12V port so you need to be careful about what you plug in here.

USB charging - The USB-C 3A port only supplies 15W; it says "30W max" but it never goes beyond 15W... so not sure that would ever be an issue. My phone says "charging rapidly" when using this port which "indicates that the charger can provide more than 7.5W (1.5A @ 5V)". The USB-A ports only deliver 4-5W even though they are spec'd as 2.4A - 12W/each. This makes these ports no better than what you'd get out of the computer. So I used my charging station on the AC port; I get a 3W conversion hit on that but it charges all my devices fast (up to 6 devices at once). The problem is it will drain the jackery very quickly.

The unit only supplies 110v, not 120v line power. That means you shouldn't use extension cables on it. But being portable, this shouldn't be a problem?

I'm Canadian so I'll be testing it through Canadian winters but everyone should be aware of the temperature specs - having -10C on the operating spec will be useful for long car trips in the winter:
Recharging temp: 0 to 40C
Operating temp: -10 to 40C
Storage temp: -20 to 45C
