This book is excellent for children. Through all of the articles of clothing that he puts on, they can begin to count, a good math lesson. They can also participate while you read the story aloud through the pictures of the clothes instead of the word. I loved this book and am adding it to my collection.

Shirley Neitzel wrote a book called The Jacket I Wear In The Snow. The main character of the story is a little boy who tells a story. This story takes place at the little boy's house and it is in the winter. The book talks about the little boy and all the clothes that he has to wear outside. This book is different because it talks about clothes and replaces words with pictures of clothes, and it is in poem form. I think that the story is funny because it rhymes a lot. The illustrations are just like normal clothes, with a very nice tint drawn in with colored pencils. Overall, I really liked this story because it represents little kids and how they have to wear a lot of clothes outside, and that they cry sometimes when they get cold.

This is a destined winter classic for the preschool set. Interesting though because of its wonderful potential for creative expression, the building story can hold the attention of older children and yes, even adults. I have read the story aloud at winter parties for children as an interactive activity speaking in the voice of a little girl with various arm, hand, leg and feet motions. The children were enraptured with laughter as they started to imitate my movements and learn the lines of the little girl's frustration with her winter garb which builds and repeats much like "The House That Jack Built." Better yet was to watch the adults listening with giggles of their own as they watched the antics of their offspring. Hope this book is in print for a long long time. It is also an excellent book for the very little ones to hear and learn what to call their various body parts and winter specific clothing items. Add it to your collection!

This is a lovely little book. The pictures are simple and add to the text of the book. As you add each article of clothing your child gets a simple math lesson. In addition to that the easy repetitive nature of this book makes it a great book for prereaders who can easily memorize and 'read' along with the book. Enjoy.

As an adult reader this book appears very clever and enjoyable with pictures and rhyme. Parents seem to enjoy hearing it as well. Unfortunately, the story and rhyme is not as accessable to the children in the audience. The pictures inserted in the text help-- although one must be a reader, informed about left to right tracking and words as symbols, to really follow the tale. I find myself sacrificing the rhyme and skipping pages as the train of events becomes too long for the audience.

I teach young children and this is a very simple, cute book about winter clothing with the structure of "The House that Jack Built," i.e., cumulative, adding an item of clothing on each page with a picture, rebus-style. As one reviewer noted, this can get tedious to read aloud to a group. However, I generally like it and the illustrations are nice, simple and sweet.

I teach English to children and this is perfect for the newcomers that enter the school. It helps them hear words and see the picture so they can follow along with the story while learning the vocabulary.

I was looking for a cute story to read to my son about putting on all of the winter layers of clothes to try to make it a more fun experience getting outdoors in cold weather. Though it's pretty straight forward in naming all the layers, some of the terms used for the different pieces of clothing are not what I usual call them so it's a bit confusing to remember them all. Overall, a cute story, but my son's just not that into it.
