This 14 gram packet of Crimson iDye Poly by Jacquard is a hot water dye for use on synthetic fibers. iDye comes in a dissolvable packet that can be dropped into hot water or tossed into your washer. Use on polyester, nylon, poly/cotton blends and some plastics. Each packet will dye two to three pounds of dry fabric. iDye Poly may also be used for sublimation printing techniques and to dye the polyester threads that are used to sew commercially manufactured garments. Made in the USA.

Quick and easy dye

I needed to dye a natural and synthetic blend dress for a wedding. It was originally white and following the directions online (youtube videos are also provided). It came out perfectly. The color for the wedding was slate grey and the color was spot on. I used the stove method and it was a pretty easy process. I kept my dress in the for the longest suggested time. The hardest part was having to stir the dress for over an hour. I plan on dying other clothes now. For the photo, it is the dress on the far left.

AMAZING!!! I have been trying to dye a bridesmaid/wedding dress to wear in a low budget wedding. I bought the dress at the Goodwill for $5 it was very pretty, but was cream colored and would have passed more for a wedding dress than a bridesmaid with that color. I bought 2 packets of Rit Dye with very very little results. The dress was 100% Poly so the fabric wasn't taking the color. After I got this, boiled the dress for an hour, got a beautiful black color. The only down side was the dress ended up wrinkled pretty bad, but after the settings on the steam iron for Poly it looks perfect and I got less than $20 in it.

One custom wedding dress in ombre

I wanted to dye my dress a purple-pink color and this was great for that job. It seemed so expensive getting that "ombre" wedding dress look. I got a dress from a resale shop, shortened it myself, then dyed the skirt. I did not dye the lace overlay as previous pictures of people doing that seemed to make it stain heavily. I stirred my hot pot on top of the stove then shoved the whole bottom into it. (I had turned the petticoat inside out so that it wouldn't get into the pot.) It came out just as I wanted. If I wanted it even darker, I would have just cooked it longer. The longer it cooks before you put in the fabric, the more pink it seems to get. It started out a dark purple. After I took it out, I put in my scraps of fabric that I had taken off the dress earlier (I cut off the train beforehand), and those ended up the pink that looks like it does on the packaging.

Color way darker than packet, but easily dyed 100% polyester

I was nervous to dye my polyester but this took super quick. Unfortunately, it also was very dark. My son was supposed to be a chameleon for Halloween and although it was ok, it read a little dinosaur-y because of the color. I read that the longer you leave it the darker it gets. I didn't even reach the recommended time. I only did about 20 min. It's a pain to have to keep stirring and make sure it's well ventilated! It doesn't smell gross, but it gave me a headache.

Better than expected, but has one major problem

I was pretty skeptical about this stuff, knowing how difficult synthetics are to color. However, I needed some black polyester fiberfill, which is difficult to find and costs almost $20/lb.

I dyed the material for an hour. It clumped severely; this was a function of the fiberfill but I feel it worth mentioning in case anyone else has similar plans. The resulting color was surprisingly deep and it is invisible in the black amigurumi I am stuffing. Yes, it smokes quite a bit and smells bad, but that's what you get with a synthetic dye. It's an inherently noxious process.

I have to take off stars not because of the work it takes or the smell, but because of how impossibly difficult it is to wash out all of the excess dye. Even after multiple washings, I'm getting major transfer when I handle the dyed fiberfill. This is a major issue because the dye not only transfers to skin, but to other fabrics, and working with it means a risk of screwing something else up. Wearing clothing dyed with this is just asking for a disaster, both for the wearer and their surroundings.

So, five stars for the results I got on polyester, but minus two for the lack of dye fixing and the utter mess that occurs even after the dyed material has been washed. On the other hand, there are only a couple synthetic dyes available for home use, so I'm glad it worked as well as it did. Even with the transfer problems I will be buying other colors for making red and blue stuffing.

One last note, do yourself a favor and buy a cheap stainless steel stock pot that you don't mind using exclusively for dying. It will never be food-safe again, and it will be permanently stained as well. Also consider using an individual burner outside; I do not recommend using this indoors unless your stove has a hood and fan.
