It's time to enter the professional world and Jade needs to put this education degree to work. We all have bills to pay, right? No one's looking to provide Jade with a job, so an opportunity for a free ride to grad school looks good and so does a summer internship. She eventually gets a job offer at the high school no one wants to teach at, but its a good thing for them. Out of the box and eccentric, Jade turns things around for her low performers. She meets many bumps in the road from the old schoolers, but that's ok, even they have a lot to learn. This is the second book from this author that I have read and I plan on reading them all.

I liked this book, but not as much as the two others I've read by this author. There is certainly his trademark humor there, although much of it is edgier, perhaps more sarcastic. It is a personal look at many of the tough issues in schools, through the eyes of new teacher Jade Currie. I liked her a lot, and her passion for teaching comes through loud and clear, but much of it was not easy to read. Jade went through a lot of tough experiences, and so did way too many of her students.

This was an incredible journey in the life of a new teacher. I wanted to be a teacher as a young girl, but life thru me a bit of a curve ball and I never fulfilled that dream. We all know that teachers are underpaid, under appreciated, and have a very tough job. Reading this story made me realize it all the more. But this story isn't about the typical gripes of teaching.....This is about having a passion, wanting to touch lives, wanting to succeed when you are set up to fail, finding ways to inspire. All this while administration has so many rules and restrictions. Cleverly written, humorous, sad and touching. Share the joys and sorrows of a first year teacher, Jade, as she struggles to find her place and then find a way to reach her students. As always, Mr. Mann is such a clever writer. Haven't read a book by him that I haven't loved.

I really enjoyed reading this book about the trials and tribulations of a junior teacher. It really took me back to my high school days. I am not a teacher nor do I wish to be one, but I still thought it was a great read. It was on the long side and I think it could have been somewhat shorter but it was still worth the read.
