Made with natural rubber, the Jade Fusion is Jade's thickest and most comfortable mat. At 5/16 inch thick, the Fusion mat is great for your yoga/Pilates/core fitness practice. 74 inch is the extra long version for taller yogis.
Jade mats are made combining natural rubber from the Far East with Western technology to form a mat that is perfect for your yoga practice. The Jade Fusion mat is thick at 5/16 inches for extra cushion, and is great for yoga, Pilates and core fitness practices.
As Jade mats are made with open cell, natural rubber, you can say goodbye to slipping on your practice mat--even if it gets wet with perspiration. Natural rubber’s superior slip resistance properties ensure a solid grip every time, and additionally provide resilience, compression set resistance and cushioning, resulting in a solid blend of comfort and performance.
The natural rubber used to create Jade mats is a renewable resource containing no PVC or ozone depleting substances, and the mats are made in the U.S.A. in compliance with all U.S. environmental and labor laws. Jade believes in being good to your body and good to the Earth, and--through a partnership with Trees for the Future--when you buy a mat, Jade plants a tree.

Recently I dramatically increased the amount I practiced, going from once every few weeks to 3-4 times per week. With this increase, my $20 mat began to slowly but surely fall apart. I started researching mats, trying to find one that would last. I was initially surprised at how much the mats cost, but with as much as I would be using one I figured purchasing a quality mat would be a good investment.
The first mat I purchased was the Manduka Pro. I read so many good reviews about this mat I figured my searching was done. However, this was not the case. Regardless of what I did, that mat was too slippery to use. I will write a more in-depth review of the Manduka mat, but the short version is I followed the break-in instructions to a tee, doing several sea-salt scrubs (and scrubbing HARD), leaving the mat to dry in the sun (as instructed . . . but don't do this with the Jade), and it was still slippery. So I returned it, resumed my search, and came across the Jade.
The first Jade I purchased was the Jade Harmony. I really liked this mat because of the grip. The traction was outstanding, but it was a little too thin for my tastes. My wife liked it, though, so we kept it, and I kept looking. I came across the Fusion in a local store and could tell it was the mat I was looking for. However, they only carried the 68" mat (I am only 5' 9", but I like to have room to move from pose to pose without having to reposition myself on the mat). I had remembered a larger Fusion from searching on amazon, so when I got home I immediately ordered it. When it arrived I knew I was done searching for a mat.
The Fusion has the same grip as the Harmony, and it has just a little more padding. Traction is not an issue on this mat. This was my #1 priority when searching for a mat, and having used the Fusion for a few weeks now I can say that I have not slipped once.
The two negative things I read about this mat were that it smelled and that it broke down after a few months. As for the smell, that is 100% true. I aired the mat out in my garage for two weeks before I even attempted to use it. It is an all-rubber mat, and that is exactly what it smells like. Maybe the smell won't bother you, but if you decide to order this mat, go into your purchase expecting that you won't be able to use it for at least two weeks because of the smell. I do not notice the smell anymore unless I am face down on the mat, and even then it is not that noticeable.
As for the Fusion breaking down, if that does happen I will update my review to state this. I've used it for a few weeks with no problems, but if it does start breaking down quickly, I don't think it would be worth the cost. For now, though, I highly recommend the Fusion. If you are looking for a mat with superior grip, and a little more padding, this is it.
UPDATE: 4/3/16 - I'm still using this same mat almost two years after my original review, and the mat is still in great shape. It is not breaking apart or showing the wear and tear I expected from this material. I still 100% recommend this mat.
The only negatives are that it still has a slight rubber smell, and it is so sticky that every piece of lint, or dirt on the floor sticks to it. It is also a lot heavier, and needed a new strap, as it would not fit in my old bag.
However the positives really outweigh the negatives, and I would make the same decision again!
I just returned my Manduka Black Mat Pro and got this. The Manduka was way too slippery and many reviews said that even after trying to break it in, it remained slippery. A friend recommended the Jade Harmony (I bought the Jade Fusion because it's a little thicker)
- Very sticky right out of the box (no break-in period required)
- Great on the knees. I have yet to encounter a pose that required me to add a blanket.
- The smell. You will see a lot of reviews about the horrible rubber smell. It is very mild, and I actually like it. It has a nice natural smell. Maybe I'm just strange.
- Because of the stickiness, it will pick up dirt and hair more than my Manduka. I'm pretty anal about stuff like that, and it really doesn't bother me much. It's easy enough to wipe off.
- I wish they made it a little longer. I'm 6'2" and 74" is fine, but I liked the 85" that Manduka provided.
Overall, I absolutely love the Jade Fusion and would strongly recommend it to anyone. I like it so much that I also bought Jade Fusions for my wife and daughter for Christmas. They love theirs too.
