The Jailbird's Jackpot Kindle Edition
The Jailbird's Jackpot by PJ Colando is a fascinating story of parolee Amy Breeden who just won a lottery mega-million-dollar jackpot hours after being released from prison. She is not thinking of the money even after being advised by her parole officer. She is focused on Travis and getting revenge after being setup and having spent time in jail.
PJ Colando has written a fun and compelling revenge novel with the right balance of satire and suspense. Amy's character, while far from perfect, is one that I instantly liked and was someone that I could root for, even in her pursuit of revenge. The plot of the story was consistently compelling and thoroughly entertaining. When Amy wins the lotto you find yourself frustrated because the character does not do what others would do, invest the money. But this is what keeps the reader invested and wanting to find out what happens next.
PJ Colando's writing style is invigorating and refreshing. I love the author's fresh ideas and unconventional characters that always broke stereotypes. The setting in the book was described in great detail which made the world itself into a character. The Jailbird's Jackpot is a unique crime fiction story with a crazy revenge plot that ultimately leads to some thought-provoking themes of personal redemption. I keep coming back to one word when I want to describe this book: fun. This was a lively story with an amusing plot that I heartily recommend to anyone that is looking for a story with a bit of mischief and a lot of drama.`--Thomas Anderson, Literary Titan****************************************************************************
Four stars - This book knocked a sock off! I'll more than likely follow/read everything by this author.Amy Breeden is a Bad Ass who was just released from jail. She spent 2000 days there as a result of being setup by Travis. The first thing Amy plans to do upon release is to get revenge.
You know how the saying goes... "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned."
What Amy doesn't anticipate is scoring the winning lottery ticket at the bus station departing the prison. Will her new-found millions fund her revenge plot or will Amy see that "living well is the best revenge?"
I loved Amy as the MC of this book. She is the perfect combination of street smarts and a 'don't mess with me' attitude. She is cautious (and rightfully so) with her trust to make sure she doesn't get taken advantage of again.
I love that she finds friends and mentors on her journey in the most unusual places - from her parole officer, the lottery clerk, and many others she meets in town.
You really get sucked into Amy's journey which made this book a hard one to putdown. --Marie, Book Review Crew
From the Back Cover
Dismayed by a cynical world gone to hell? Amy Breeden, though a felon, will lead you out of hell with laughter and determination."
--Art Plotnik, award-winning author of Spunk and Bite and other tomes on writing
REVENGE REWARD REDEMPTION
Parolee Amy Breeden held herself together during nearly two thousand days of incarceration with a single-minded focus: to destroy the dude who did her in. Within hours of her release, Amy hits the lotto mega-million jackpot.
"Living well is the best revenge," her parole officer advises, but Amy is hellbent on revenge.
A former Chicago crime boss, an estranged brother, a substitute mom, a zany house painter, a pre-imprisonment pal - and the handsome parole officer - complicate Amy's quest for empowerment. When Amy's longtime nemesis invades her haven, her ire ignites. She becomes more determined than ever to avenge herself.
The aging crime boss enjoins her mission. Victory is finalized when she's able to buy her mortal enemy's thriving bar in a fire sale... and becomes the Boss.
But is that enough? Will revenge result in satisfaction? Will her personal redemption require more than revenge and the monetary reward to live well?
"PJ Colando writes with uncommon heart, humor, and pathos to artfully reveal the foibles and dignity of the human spirit."

What ensues is narrated with PJ Colando’s characteristic and often outrageous wit and her characters’ crazy antics. I have to say that Amy is one of the most likeable of the author’s characters in any of her books. Insecure but self-reliant, brash when she has to be, but prone to guilt and with a warm heart, I found myself rooting for her throughout the book. I think this book had the quirkiest characters of any of the author’s novels I’ve read so far. It makes for entertaining reading. This is the kind of book you read when you want to escape the seriousness of today’s world and get lost in an escapist fantasy. This is a fantasy that contains everything: beautiful women, kindly strangers, preying business people, even a Mafia godfather, and lots and lots of money. It kept me on the verge of laughing out loud throughout, although I also worried about Amy and my feelings followed the peaks and valleys of her adventures, hoping they would turn out for the best.
I won’t reveal any spoilers, but I will guarantee that if you’re looking to be entertained with a funny, absorbing story that keeps you on the edge of your seat while tickling your funny bone, this is a novel you’ll love.
P.J. Colando has a unique writing style that I enjoy. It's fun, easy, lighthearted, and relaxing.
I also enjoyed all the characters that are pulled into our Jailbird's exciting life after she wins the huge jackpot, like the lady at the lottery office, her old friends, and an unlikely father figure and kind mother figure our lonely girl really needs.
Mixed in is her love/hate relationship with younger Andy, causing problems along the way.
A fun ride. Well done, P.J. Colando.
The author's love for writing came through every page. The settings seemed real to me, and I also liked the descriptions of the individuals and groups that made the story one continuous revelation for our main character, Amy, on her journey from jail to jackpot to finding herself along the way.
This story of prison poor to riches, the ensuring spending spree and the carefully laid plans of rich revenge are what dreams are made of. Choices are made and, hopefully a new career is born.
The Jailbird's Jackpot is a Great Read!
