About the author

Professional Chef, elite drug dealer and story teller, Artie Cuisine is a TV & Radio Chef, Great Host, and author of JAILHOUSE COOKBOOK: The Prisoner’s Recipe Bible, BBC News ranked most upmarket prison cookbook.
A lovable rascal, entrepreneur, and mover and shaker, following a scandalous 19 year run as a hotshot New York City smart ass, party animal, kitchen wizard, and go-to drug dealer, he became a “Guest of The State”, which is lightheartedly detailed in his autobiography: ‘A 19 YEAR RUN: The Big Story, From Glamour to The Slammer’.
A smooth operator and storyteller, cooking in prison became his recreation, currency, safety net and challenge. From dorms to solitary confinement in The Box, Artie paid his debt to society cooking all the way!
With a natural talent for cooking, his ‘professional’ career commenced at age 11, standing on a milk crate working the sauté station in a local restaurant. He received his culinary degree in New York, took advanced culinary courses in Asia, and studied chocolate work, candy making, and sugar sculpting under a renowned Swiss pastry chef. Then, ten years into his dream career as an Executive Chef working with New York's most prestigious culinary masters ... WHAM!
He trashed a bright future choosing the instant gratification cocaine and fast money buys. While in prison he cooked and wrote to feel productive and worthwhile, preparing gourmet meals with the limited ingredients at his disposal, to the high standard his training required, and to the utter disbelief of his cell mates. He was also thrown together with Kings and Crips who protected him in exchange for cooking their favorite foods, with a gourmet flair! The recipe notes he smuggled out to his lawyer became the Jailhouse Cookbook.
Artie is no longer that cocky perp! He lives in a sunny place, owns a restaurant/bar, and spends his time cooking and writing, and jogging on the beach with his dogs.

It seems the author went out of his way to make this book not just about cooking in prison and other places with limited resources, but also about the challenge of having something positive to look forward to every day.
This book is very cleverly written. I enjoyed the story before each recipe, Arties great wit and positive attitude made what must have been a difficult experience seem easy.
I REALLY RECOMMEND THIS AMAZING BOOK!!!
