Let me be clear - It really is an enjoyable game - you don't have to be uber-coordindated like some of the other shooter / action games you can struggle with. At times I also think it is excellent at achieving its goal of immersing you in the movie - the story , mix of action types and voice overs make for a great combination. In fact if you play it on the easy levels - you can run through the whole game at the same duration as one of the movies.
There are a couple of major problems with this game (notably some of the online medals don't register in multiplayer) but the big one for me is a well documented on the last mission of Burma level to get the 'law of the jungle' trophy - this only occurs on 007 mode, but basically if you spend a lot of time and effort playing through, when you finish the level the cut scene doesn't trigger - no trophy.
The only fix is to delete the saved game data and go through the whole damn thing again. It doesn't occur all the time - but from what I see in the online forums theres a high chance you'll be affected too. Bottom line if you're going for 007 mode, play the last section of this Burma level first so you don't waste your life going through it again. And then again.
On this 'replay' through, I went through the entire single-player on the recruit difficulty (to unlock the 007 mode) - start to finish - in just over 2hrs. Even on the 007 level, it probably only takes a day or two (you are probably better at this stuff that me!).
The multiplayer is riddled with bugs , and the 'old-timers' frequently kick you from the game (its like some private club) and even the multiplayer 'ethos' lacks the objectives with Uncharted2, Crysis etc. Basically lots of people running around shooting at each other as per usual - but with some horrible sync, timing and trophy issues.
So the final question - should you play this? Yes, absolutley - but don't pay full price for it. Get it used on here or rent it. You'll be done with it in a weekend without too much effort
I'll be honest I sort of played through this in anticipation of Goldeneye Reloaded due at the end of the year - I hope they don't repeat a lot of the issues that are still in Bloodstone.
The graphics are a lot better than I expected. Some areas look better than others but overall the game is gorgeous. There are also quite a few cut scenes which is rare for a Bond game. They are well done and add even more to that movie-like feel the developers strived for. Daniel Craig along with Judi Dench lend there voices and it really adds to your feeling of actually controlling Bond.
There are both stealth missions and full out action ones. Also in the stealth missions you can just kill everything and not be stealthy at all if you wish. You use your smart phone to hack cameras and computers and it is your tried and true gadget of choice. Most of the time you have to do a quick time event to hack the electronic device. These QTE events are fun and done pretty well. There nothing extraordinary but they do make you earn the use of your gadget.
The game uses a cover system that woks rather well. You can easily switch cover and guide along it in order to position yourself to kill the target. Another big part of the combat system is the physicality that Craig brings to Bond. You will probably kill a lot of enemies by punching them in the face. The game rewards you for doing so by giving you a free head shot. Every person that you take down with your fist gives you a Bond moment where you are guaranteed one head shot. It works similar to the system used in Splinter Cell Conviction. You zoom in on a guys head and pull the trigger. No one can shoot you while you are in this mode.
The story is also a great highlight. Is it the best spy tale ever? No, but it does have it's share of twists and turns, and really keeps you hooked to find out who's behind the curtain pulling all the strings. Also there are a ton of of Bond type moments that you expect. There are funny and some unbelievable moments that come with the territory and are very typical of a Bond movie or game in this case.
This game is in no doubt my choice for GOTY. It plays with great precision in all aspects. The story, car chases, Bond moments, and just plain kick ass quality that we expect from a movie all inter twined in this amazing game. If you are a fan of James Bond or just 3rd person shooters in general pick this game up I highly recommend it.
