Jamie Lau is a designer, sewing instructor, fashion writer, and author based in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. She received a sewing machine for her twenty-fifth birthday and hasn't put it down since. A self-taught seamstress consistently inspired by her love of dresses, Jamie infuses a playful nostalgia into her work by transforming simple silhouettes into fashion forward frocks sewn from traditional Japanese prints, luxurious brocades, ikats, and vintage-inspired fabric (www.jamielaudesigns.com).
A public policy wonk turned fashion designer, Jamie left the world of government cubicles to intern at BurdaStyle.com in 2010, where she then went on to author a book and become the site's Editorial and E-commerce Manager from 2012-2013. Jamie's work has been featured in the Fashion & Style section of The New York Times, Brooklyn Based, and Martha Stewart Weddings. In addition to designing for her eponymous fashion label, Jamie teaches sewing courses at the Textile Arts Center and across the country.
