This book gives wonderful insights to a little-known, but pivotal personality during the first half of the 20th Century. Highly recommended if you know of, or have discovered Jan Smuts. Therer are other books on his life, but this one gives the rare look at the bigger than life person from the viewpoint of a son who knew him in the private moments.

Jan Christian Smuts was a South African of towering intellect that had as much to do with the shaping of 20th century politics in Africa as many much better known figures. He died at the close of the WWII period, when turmoil still reigned throughout Africa. Would that He had lived 30 more years.
