From the Inside Flap
For as long as she could remember, Jane Stuart and her mother lived with her grandmother in a dreary mansion in Toronto. Jane always believed her father was dead--until she accidentally learned he was alive and well and living on Prince Edward Island. When Jane spends the summer at his cottage on Lantern Hill, doing all the wonderful things Grandmother deems unladylike, she dares to dream that there could be such a house back in Toronto...a house where she, Mother, and Father could live together without Grandmother directing their lives--a house that could be called home. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

nuisance. How wrong she was. From very first sight her and 'Dad' are kindred spirits and Jane unfurls for the first time in her life and upon returning to her cold rich home she meets the eyes of her cruel controlling Grandmother for the first time. Jane will never be the same now she's found 'Dad.
Although aimed at a jounior audience i, being 45, would class this as one of my favourite books. Bravo LM Montgomery
However, no matter how many times I have read this book (and it has been MANY times), I still always enjoy it. Her account of a shy, suppressed girl's transformation makes you want to cheer for Jane as she discovers the strength to become her own person instead of a shadow in her grandmother's house.
