Short story- I'm an Indie writer of literary, character-driven stories with humor and heart. In my books, you'll find no F-bombs or sex scenes that make you cringe. I promise! That said, I have written some humorous romances. I've always been fascinated with the relationships between people.
News on Geronimo, Life on the Reservation (www.GeronimoLifeontheReservation.com ), a one-man play starring Rudy Ramos that I wrote, is booked to do 2 more performances during Western Legends Roundup in Kenab, Utah in 2018. The last show was in Ft. Worth recently. Before that, Rudy was at the Joel and Frances Mc Crea Ranch in Thousand Oaks, CA. on August 20th, 2016. The show is suitable for all ages. Catch it if you can! The show has gotten great reviews and has had sell-out crowds. In the works is the original version of the show that I will, hopefully, finish by the end of 2018 (work on my novel, A One-way Cruise to Africa, has put me behind.) I plan to publish the original version--a historical fantasy--of Geronimo under the title "My Name is Geronimo, How Me!" Suitable for all ages. Both shows focus on Geronimo's life on the reservation (his senior years) so there are no scenes that would scare children.
My newest novel, A One-way Cruise to Africa, a cautionary tale for New Adults about using caution over the Internet, is in final edits. As I'm an independent, producing a book takes a lot of time. At the end of the Yellow Brick Road, there's no one behind the curtain but me! It's a good read and worth the wait. I think you'll like it! This suspense/romance story addresses the growing problem of human sex-trafficking, but is suitable for New Adults and up.
I know a lot of us, when we think books, think beach. I envy those of you who can hit the beach, spread out a towel, open a good book, and pretend you're a zucchini on a grill for a few hours. Here in the Northwest, it's usually cold out there on that sand. We have to make do with a cozy fireplace. No matter which location suits you best, here are some of my bestsellers to keep you company:
Boogie, Boots, & Cherry Pie—a light, humorous romance (“Kiss me, I have cherry pie on my lips!”) Paperback & Kindle. Suitable for most.
Custer & His Naked Ladies—a modern Western--Sometimes, Naked Ladies are just old women in capri pants…and Custer is just an old yeller dog…the 3rd book in my Turtle Trilogy but it stands alone. Paperback & Kindle. Suitable for most.
Bears in the Hibiscus—a light starting-over romance with a sexy Montana Park Ranger who thinks there might be Bears in the Hibiscus on a Hawaiian vacation. Paperback & Kindle. Some mildly sexy content. Suitable for most
There’s a Mouse in the House!—a collection of short stories and poems to be read to children 2-6. A YouTube favorite! The four book trailers for the book have over 14,000 views. Kids love them! Kindle only. A favorite with Worldreader readers in Africa, China, and India!
The Slum Resort, a novella, is a good read (Kindle only). Suspense/humor. Suitable for YA and up.
Also, I’ve recently added three new short stories to my book page: Escape to Laredo, my first Western short story; Harpy & Julianne's Tomato War; and Old Joe's Pink Cadillac. All are Kindle only. All three are suitable for all. All would make good stocking stuffers!
I love to read as much as you do; one of the perks of writing is that I can explore my interests in marine biology, anthropology, and archaeology and call it research. Then, I can weave bits of the science and history into my stories and call it work! I call the whole process my Briar Patch, and I think Uncle Remus would approve.
Visit me on YouTube! Most of my books and articles have a YouTube video. Some of them are posted on the right. If one is missing, you can find them by searching Janelle Meraz Hooper and Janelle Hooper on YouTube. I had fun making these trailers by hand; they're kind of like one of those homemade mufflers you get from Aunt Agnes at Christmas...only they're a lot shorter! I hope you'll give them a look. As you view them, you'll notice I'm not a formula writer; I write each story in the style that's best for that particular story, so each one is different. Remember, I'm an independent! (:
