This book was fantastic. I am a huge fan of series and January Girl is a continuation of the very first series I ever read by Mari Carr. The Collins family has a special place on my heart and I was so excited to get to see little snippits of all the couples from that first series. But as it's own book January Girl has it all. Interesting characters who are both flawed and grow over the course of the book. They're well thought out characters and the arc of the story is a good mix of satisfying escapism and realistic problems.
The sex scenes are explicit and if that's something you have a problem with this might not be the right book for you. But I encourage you to read it with an open mind, too often in erotica or even romance books the sex scenes can be so boring after a while, just a series of repetitions. What I love about Mari Carr books is that's never the case. You feel the emotions, the sex scenes are well written and hot hot hot, and not at all embarrassing or ridiculous like you sometimes find!
Overall I suggest you read this book! It's absolutely worth every penny. Honestly my only complaint is that it's not longer. I so didn't want to leave the world of the Collin's family! I love the set up for the other cousins and I can't wait to read every single one of them!! Don't keep us waiting long Mari!!
Lucas had been infatuated with Caitlyn since he saw her picture in a file with info he has gotten on Caitlyn's family. He feels it's true that opposites attract.
Lucas is dominant and Caitlyn recognizes it. She has known for a while that she was submissive, like her mother is.
They develop a close relationship despite his company's plans to take over the family business.
Lucas falls for Caitlyn and, in turn, her big happy family. He realizes how wrong he has been in buying up these businesses and taking people's livelihoods away from them. Can he stop the acquisition of Caitlyn's family's business before it destroys their legacy and his relationship with Caitlyn? Can Caitlyn save Lucas from himself?
This is a great book. I can't wait to read the other books in the series, especially the third book.
I loved the original series (wild irish) and if you haven't read that I suggest you do, while it will not stop you from falling in love with this over the top crazy lobeable family it will provide you with more insight into the dynamics of the family and of pop pop and his words of wisdom.
Mari does not let the series down with the first book on the next generation. Caitlyn reminds me so much of her mother and they have similar lessons to learn. Sometimes love comes from the devil himself.
When we first meet Lucas I didn't know whether to love or hate him and Mari portrays this character with so much depth and detail that it leaves me wondering who he's based on. He's so sure of his path yet conflicted by what he sees, a family that not only loves but truly holds no grudges. And for him it's the journey of discovering that love exists that's most exciting.
Two characters that are both so stubborn and stuck in their (opposite) ways are written with a beauty and charm that makes you fall in love.
Bring on the next Collin cousin and their story.
Caitlyn is an attorney who helps out at the family business, Pat's Pub, and Lucas is the man determined to buy her family's business. When they both happen to be at the pub one night, they meet and the chemistry is off the charts. The only problem is they are on different sides. Lucas is so taken with her that he convinces her to one date with him. Caitlyn is used to negotiating and sees this as an opportunity to find out what plans he has for trying to convince her family to sell their business to him. She only hopes she can keep her one weakness a secret from him during their date.
Can Caitlyn convince Lucas to give up on trying to acquire her family's business. Is his attraction to her enough to change his mind? Do they have a chance at happily ever after?
Mari is a great storyteller and this story is no exception. I was immediately pulled in and could not put this book down. The chemistry between the characters is scorching and the storyline is one that will keep you turning the pages.
