This novel is quite intriguing as it is told from different points of view of from the main characters. This is very clever in keeping the story fresh and providing a deeper insight into each character. At the beginning of the novel, through the narration of January Jackson, we are provided with thorough descriptions of her life and surroundings. She also provides character descriptions of her friends, which gives an insight into exactly what kind of people they are. This allows for familiarisation and connection to the characters which most other authors in the erotica genre fail to do.
January and her crew are a refreshing mix of street smarts and attitude, as well as high flying ladies who know how to live the good life. The novel follows their love and adventures with a good dose of erotica.
This is a very Hip / Urbane contemporary novel which features devices like colloquial language and pop culture which makes is stand out. I must admit, this is the very first African-American themed book I have read, and it was a total surprise! From chapter two I was so into it that I read it all in one go - and forgot most of my housework!!! I felt like I was reading about real people and their situations!
The erotica is extremely HOT! There were lots of steamy scenes and intense moments of pure pleasure! Like some other readers have commented, I think Zonie Felder has a really unique writing style and she could easily try her hand at many genres and be successful. I am looking forward to her next novel.
One of the most refreshing aspects of this book is the sharpness of dialogue and skilful story structure which has depth and lucidity .
The writing is good and goes way beyond the usual and inherent one dimensionality so prevalent in this genre .
It would be remiss not to mention the open mouthed erotica but equally wrong to suggest this is the substance of the narrative . The book works on several layers with shades of meaning, tempo and emotion.
Will appeal to a mixed audience and not just those who favour a little sauce and sass on their reading matter . A promising debut .

The "love" scenes are extremely hot, steamy and satisfying! You are in for a wild ride so you'd better be "in the mood", and if you are in the mood, then look no further!! You will be spent and satisfied at the end!
The book centers around a group of characters and their involvement with each other, and each chapter is seen from the point of view of a different character, which makes it so interesting because you are reading the inner dialogue of multiple characters, not just one or two. You learn what they all really think of each other!
I have to say that this is one of the most exhilarating, entertaining, exciting, intriguing and enjoyable novels I've ever read. It is similar to a Stephen King novel in its rich, lavish and detailed descriptions and the way in which it is written to engage its readers and really grab and keep their attention. It runs a mile a minute and is very absorbing. It's definitely a very "naughty" adult read, and lets face it - sometimes all we want to do to let off steam is read about people behaving badly!
A highly entertaining and original book!!!
