Will it last 10 years? Probably not. But if properly cared for, it should serve well for 5.
Do NOT put in the dishwasher. Wash by hand. (Be careful not to cut yourself.) It should serve you well.
It's exceptionally thin and light, and very sharp out of the box. Don't know how long it will hold its edge, but the gentle slope of the blade will make it very easy to hone back to perfection.
Just don't expect to use it to chop major bones!
The handle is like cheap pine and it's oval shaped for ambidexterous users, not D shaped (which i would have preferred).
The knife is dull out of the box!
let me be clear, you can cut with this knife, but it does not pass the paper cutting test.
i bought this knife to learn how to sharpen japanese knives, for that you need a 16 degree angle as opposed to the traditional 22 degrees on most other european knives.
this knife is able to take an edge and ger a burr really fast, probably because it's just stainless steal, but again, it's only 15 bucks.
I do however have an entire line of x-coarse/coarse/fine/x-fine/xx-fine dmt diamond stones.
i won't do traditional japanese whetstones, b/c i honestly would rather watch grass grow on my lawn.
once i put the proper angle on this knife, it cuts really smooth. (it could probably use 3% more finess, but it cuts up veggies like nothing)
i have an edge apex clone and an angle cube tho, so just one diamond sharpening stone costs more than this knife, ha.
but once you're able to put a good angle / edge on this blade it keeps it pretty well and cuts nicely.
it cuts almost as well as my shun wasabi chefs knife.
