I would DEFENITELY RECOMMEND GETTING THIS BOOKS!
I really enjoy this series, this is a great place to start reading books specially if you already know a few basic kanji and vocabulary however I felt the price was a bit too high for the amount of content/reading you get considering there are other alternatives out there for free or at much lower price like children's books for about $1 to $5 and some of this books have a Japanese native reading them and have far more content.

This was seriously what I needed, It's simple enough to follow along and understand what is being said. I think the price is a little high but it comes with multiple picture books and audio that reads to you at such an easy beginner level, and the only one I could find so it definitely made it worth it.

I liked these but the value isn't that great. You get 6 books with about 15 pages per book. Each page has a nicely done color picture and about 2 sentences of Japanese. I started with knowing about 700 words, most of the Kanji for those words, and the kana alphabets. I found these books to be at an appropriate level for me to read pretty easily. I had to look up a few words here and there, but not that many. The books are somewhat interesting, but not super interesting. Each book focuses on a different topic. The book topics are: the blooming of the cherry blossoms, the Japanese food made from soybeans, everyday life - leaving in the morning, everyday life - eating a meal with friends, everyday life - life at school, following a day for a policeman stationed at a police box.
I just found these to be really short. I probably spent about 5-10 minutes per book. It is really only around 180 sentences of Japanese. For how much more I would have to read to learn this way, the price seemed like it would quickly become prohibitive. I'm now trying to read the Yotsuba&! manga instead which is targeted at kids and has around 180 pages per $10-15 volume which about 6 panels per page. I had to order it from Amazon Japan in order to get it in Japanese, although the shipping was very fast but also expensive. It is slightly too difficult for me, but manageable.

An exceptional collection of stories and audio! The six books are thin (15 pages each), but sufficient in depth for the beginner student of Japanese to read, then reread repeatedly for absorbing patterns in the language and vocabulary acquisition.
The accompanying audio is crisp and clear. Each story is narrated naturally at an evenly paced rhythm (neither too slow nor too fast), making the listening and simultaneous reading experience quite pleasant. Overall, an outstanding graded reader!

These booklets look simple but contain a lot of information. The pronunciation info (furigana) helps a lot.
Don't be surprised if on the average each pages introduces 5 new words.

I enjoyed the stories and the reading makes me learn to read in Japanese and to understand it better. I do recommend getting readers to help with vocabulary and understanding. I read them all the time and it helps to read along with the CD included.

Perfecto para iniciarse en la lectura del japones
Reviewed in Spain on October 15, 2017Verified Purchase

Interesting for beginners to read

My Japanese teacher recommended this series to our class.
The books are very expensive indeed, but I feel it is worth it. They are beautifully designed for adult learners and the materials are genuinely interesting -- things you want to know about Japan. The illustrations are attractive and help your understanding of the text. They are suitable for anyone who can read Hiragana and Katakana and has some basic vocabulary and grammar.
I am going through them slowly and thoroughly and enjoying them.
