On first glance I was really impressed by this book but even diving into what I thought was basic review I noticed some translation issues.
For example “はじめまして” is a phrase used to greet someone for the first time, and more or less means “how do you do?” However this books marks this meaning as “hello” without even mentioning its first time use.
Later I learn the verb “いる” which means to have. It’s example sentence reads “いぬ が [い]ます” which means I have a dog. It is important to note the example only highlights “い” because as a beginner I have no idea why a verb would drop its ending. Turns out “います” is a more poliet version of the verb, but the book doesn’t even highlight them as the same word, or teach the verb form they use as example.
During the family section there is a page with 7 vocabulary words missing any translations. These are all words for referring to someone else’s family and are very similar to the past few vocabulary you learn for your own family. However it the book does not tell you they are similar or what they mean - you just have to look it up again.
Lastly this book teaches some kanji vocabulary, but not all that would be N5 level such as teaching 父 / ちち for father but just いぬ for dog. Which is only a minor complaint, but annoying nonetheless.
I’ve only read a small portion of this book (50, of the 1000 words) but I’ve needed to cross reference and ask questions far too many times. I understand that there is a grammar book in this series as well as online support / audio (please note I have not tried these) but as a stand alone resource it isn’t always trustworthy or useable.
I would not recommend this book unless you are only use it to review after working on the JLPT N5 for some time.

The book itself and very neat and nice. The layout is just enough to fit all that is needed for the page and the size is just right to carry on the go. All of the pronounciation for each vocabulary word is written in hiragana/katakana; which is actually really nice to not being able to rely on romaji and being forced to read japanese.
I will say I only bought the book for basic vocabulary, not for the N5 test, so I cannot commentate if the book does help with the N5 test.
The only con that I would list is that nothing is in kanji, so words like "私" are spelled out "わたし", "にほん" instead of "日本" etc. I personally would like to have the kanji also listed just to understand that certain words/phrases are written in kanji rather than hiragana, but that's just me.
Overall, very nice and a wonderful book!

I didn't realized how small these books were so at first glance I was disappointed by the size. I also find that the other language translation kind of throw me off. I am also learning chinese, so having chinese translations instead would've been more helpful(just my perference!). I also wished they provided more than one sentence example as one is not nearly enough.

It's small, the size of a book.

The book is really good to learn vocabulary, but I should include the hiragana chart. The book brings a lot of vocabulary but make sure you know your hiragana before buy it because the book don't include the ramoji version of words only hiragana it is true there is the audio but I think as a beginners book it should also include the hiragana. Really good a lot of new words and some basic questions about daily life activities I highly recommend it but be sure to know hiragana first to be out of trouble.

All in all, it’s a good product, I don’t regret having bought it. It features useful vocabulary sectioned by topics, and with examples. I consider as quite a flaw the fact that most of the words are missing kanji representation, they are written in hiragana or katakana only, even the most simple ones. In the author’s place I would have added kanji, that wouldn’t have taken up so much space. Also I would’ve preferred more example sentences

It arrived earlier than expected! Yay!! It's good to study vocabulary and start to understand, the audios are great and helps with pronunciation, the app is kind of tricky but if you at least know a little hitagana and katakana you will manage just right.

A very good book for N5 level japanese
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 14, 2019Verified Purchase
This is a fantastic book, along with the other series. It is divided up into sections and subjects. It has example sentences and phrases, also hiragana and katakana translations. It also has a red film to cover up the page to help you memorise the vocabulary. Moreover it is very well put together to help you with sentence structure.

Molto carino e utile.

Good book but the product name is misguiding!
Reviewed in Germany on November 3, 2020Verified Purchase
The add-on "(Trilingue en Japonais - Anglais - Chinois)" within the product name is really misguiding. I thought, the book would include the Japanese vocabuly and provide a translation in English and Chinese. Unfortunately, the third language is not Chinese but Vietnamese.
The book itself arrived with some small creases. Other than that, it seems to be quite good. I like the structure, the "tests" and everything.
But please change the product name!!
