Jarl is the second book in The Legends of the Travelers series and I strongly recommend reading the first, Saga, before you read it.
Jarl is now a full mage and Saga a weaponsmaster. They are returning to Jarl's home in Vanaheim so he can embark training as the realm's future leader. They quickly learn more is afoot--on both the two- and four-foot ranges. Are their peoples destined for war with each other? This is a heartful coming of age story for both horse and rider and one that will come to full fruition in the forthcoming third book, Saga's War, which I am very much looking forward to reading.

And, like Saga, though intended primarily for young adults it left me wanting more. Fortunately, I'm told that a third volume is on the way; I can hardly wait!
