I'm not a scientist, but I've read up a bit on N-A-C, and I'll attempt a brief overview. N-A-C supplements provide the body with extra amounts of L-cysteine, a precursor to a substance called Glutathione. In other words, taking N-A-C gives us more L-cysteine, which then gives us more Glutathione. Glutathione is a critical substance in our body, maintaining our body’s antioxidant defenses in the face of everyday assaults. Acting as an antioxidant, it detoxifies and provides intracellular defense against oxidative stress. Think of Glutathione as a street sweeper for our body. It is a major supporter of our liver and lungs. (So, why not simply skip the L-cysteine and just take Glutathione supplements instead? The reason is that Glutathione is not well digested by the body.)
Our body's supply of Glutathione may need a boost for several reasons, including alcohol consumption, acetaminophen use, chronic disease, physiological and physical stress, inadequate diet and environmental toxins. N-A-C is preferred to cysteine, or cystine, as a supplement because of its stability and solubility.Read more ›
Last month I spent a week in New Orleans and really over drank the mint juleps one day. Probably totaled 7 drinks in the course of the afternoon and evening. Well, when I woke in the early morning hours, the whole room was rolling!! Bad!! I used to take a homeopathic called Nux Vomica, that would usually help hangover symptoms. But I didn't bring it with me this time. I wracked my brain to figure out what I could do for myself and remembered reading that NAC can help with overindulgence in food or alcohol because it detoxes the liver. I took a capsule and laid back down till morning. I am absolutely amazed!! It was as if I had never had a drink and I was not nauseated, dizzy or anything!! Just another normal day! So, I am sold on that part.
I've also read that if NAC is taken at the first signs of a cold, etc. that it will prevent the sickness from coming on. I haven't personally tried it for this, but if I get a sniffle, this will be the first thing I try.
For the person who mentioned foggy brain syndrome, I have gotten a good response from taking Jarrow N-acetyl Tyrosine (does not say no corn but I have not had a reaction). It is the enzyme that assists with dopamine production assisting with relief of depression and parkinson type of symptoms. It supports brain function by supporting the neuraltransmitters. I do not seem so forgetful since I started taking this.
I just heard back from Jarrow and this product does not contain corn. I am ordering now so hopefully this will help me. I will post again once I know if this is helpful.
Wow....amazing difference. After taking this for some months, I am using a lot less asthma medicine. I am down to 1 main medicine and the emergency inhaler a few times a month. I am so happy with this product. This will stay for awhile. I am not sure why my system is not making this enzyme but until it does I will use this product.

I took this as it's supposed to help you "think clearly" and maybe it does but I'll probably stop when the current bottle runs outPublished 2 days ago by Frederick C Thompson
On bottle #2. I use it in conjunction with my bulletproof liposomal glutithione. It really seems to help with my brain fog. Read morePublished 24 days ago by Patricia Overn
This is a great product, unfortunately when I got down to the end of the bottle, there were many empty capsules and loose supplement powder. Read morePublished 1 month ago by Tara Sullivan
