I had a weird red bumpy patch appear by one corner of my mouth. Not acne. Most likely perioral dermatitis. For two months I tried all sorts of moisturizers and antibacterial and antifungal and tea tree oil and zinc cream...nothing helped. It wasn't until I started taking supplemental zinc that it finally started to heal and go away! I also suspected I needed zinc because a couple of my lab results were slightly out of range and my dr said don't worry. But when i looked into them, they possibly indicated low zinc. That's also when I noticed that the inexpensive multivitamin gummy I've been taking does not include any zinc, whereas most do contain a little. So for me all signs pointed towards "try zinc".
This is the very best option I found because 1.) It is a sensible amount of zinc. Other brands have 40 or 50 mg and say take daily. Yowza, that is a lot of zinc...on the very upper end of what is considered safe, and keep in mind you're most likely getting some zinc naturally in foods also. Too much zinc can be harmful. That's why even at a lower dosage, this brand says to consider taking it every other day 2.) This is the only brand I found that includes a small amount of copper. Too much zinc will deplete copper! So this brand strikes the right "balance" to prevent you from doing more harm than good by taking a supplement. I will continue to take it every other day as my skin clears and then probably discontinue when I get a brand of multivitamin that does contain a little zinc, and take this extra zinc only if needed if skin issues return.

This stuff works for me! I highly recommend it! The price is right, too! It’s the exact dosage I was looking for way back when and it’s easy to swallow. [I’ve included a pic so you can see exactly how big the capsule is compared to a U.S. dime.] I’m now on my fourth bottle and have no complaints. I bought this once from Vitacost and the last three times from Amazon. I haven’t noticed any side effects from it and take it once a day in the evening after a meal. I get 11mg of zinc in my daily multivitamin that I take after breakfast for a total of 26 mg of zinc per day. The main reason I take it is to help with my prostate issues. It also helps boost my immune system. I’m not a medical professional so I couldn’t tell you how much is right for you. When in doubt always check with your doctor or pharmacist. But when I was researching zinc supplement consumption online, I’m thinking it said to stay under 40 mg per day for an adult. I know I will be buying more of it from Amazon in the future.
