Jason Priestley: A Memoir Hardcover – May 6, 2014
| Price | New from | Used from |
Jason Priestley, star of the iconic hit television series Beverly Hills, 90210 and one of the biggest teen idols of the 1990s, chronicles the highs and lows of his life and career in this charming and honest memoir.
The hit Fox show Beverly Hills, 90210 became a cultural touchstone of the 1990s and propelled its young cast to mega-stardom, including Jason Priestley, who played honorable Midwestern transplant Brandon Walsh. Yet despite more than twenty years in and out of the limelight, Priestley has carefully maintained his privacy. In this compelling memoir, the actor, director, and race-car aficionado invites us into his private world for the first time.
With humor, sincerity, and charm, Priestley offers little-known details about his life and stories of his nine years in America’s most famous zip code. He talks candidly about celebrity, marriage, fatherhood, and his passion for car racing. He does not shy away from the devastating lows—his brief jail sentence for drunk driving and the crash at the Kentucky Speedway that nearly took his life. Priestley shares his innermost thoughts about life as a ’90s icon, and goes beyond the Brandon Walsh squeaky-clean image, revealing the tumultuous events that have shaped him, and where he finds his greatest happiness today.

Tales told out of school
Jason Priestley: A Memoir tells the honest, compelling, and often humorous details of Priestley's up-and-down life, from his childhood in Canada to his adult life as a husband and father. Priestley shares his best stories of life as a young, unknown actor and later as a star; some of his compadres were Brad Pitt, Bradley Cooper, Tiffani Amber Thiessen, and Ashley Judd, and he divulges never-before-revealed anecdotes about their early days as actors.
But even with his engaging insights and terrific sense of humor, Priestley does not avoid the tough subjects. In 2000, he had a brush with the law and was briefly in jail. His longtime passion for auto racing led to a devastating injury in 2002, during a practice run at the Kentucky Speedway when he crashed his race car into a wall at nearly 190 miles an hour. (Luke Perry, who was—and still is—one of his best friends, rushed to his side after the crash.) Eventually Priestley made a full recovery.
In Jason Priestley: A Memoir, Priestley shares the delights and difficulties of living a real life that is better than any fiction.

It was one of those books where each chapter is a short story of some sort. Easy to write. It technically deserved a 3 but Jason is such a nice guy I couldn't do that. Probably the most interesting nugget was that he roomed with Brad. But even with that everything shared was all VERY vanilla.
He's just too nice.
I found it a fun read. I grew up watching 90201 so was nice to read about the behind the scenes from a true source. Also JP gives you an insight of what it takes to make into Hollywood... You don't become an overnight sensation as you would think... On top of that some very famous names popped up during the story and it was like a little cherry on top
In the 90's I was in college but the dorm I was in would watch this show! People would gather around to watch 90210.
I did watch episodes of 90210 off and on. This show was a hit. Back then times were different it was all about finding yourself and getting an education or work. Jason was lucky to break into the acting scene quickly.
The book was well written, organized and well thought out.
He was right about Canadian shows! I use to watch Mr. Dress up.
The fact he realized many things throughout his time of being famous made me feel he knew how to seperate his character from himself. The lesso s he learned as an actor and individual as he grew up in the industry made me read the entire book in one day. I couldn't put it down.
Great read.
If your wanting to read this for the juicy gossip of 90210 then I don't recommend it because even though he does talk about 90210 and the other actors and actresses but says nothing negative or ugly and only speaks the truth about the relationships he had with them and any other actor he has worked with in his career. He also talks more though about his love life, his racing career, and what it's really like trying to make it as an actor. It was all though very well written and tasteful and I have to say after reading that I have a new found likeness for Jason Priestly..the way he talks about the people that have come in and out of his life, his wife and his children is just so genuine and kind. The outlook he now has on life after his racing accident is inspirational. I love reading but if it doesn't get my attention in the first two chapters I won't finish reading it but he did an awesome job to make u just want to keep on reading.
I highly recommend this book!!! Two thumbs up :)
