Years ago, I read a book by the legendary educator Howard Gardner called Extraordinary Minds. It studied the patterns of four types of extraordinary figures, what he called Masters (e.g. Mozart), Makers (e.g. Freud), Introspector (e.g. Woolf) and Influencer (e.g. Gandhi). He tried to understand what made them so great and what practices could be applied to help each of us become better.

Blog postI like to cook steak on my cast iron pan. It’s simple — you let the meat get to room temperature, coat it with salt and pepper, heat oil on the pan on medium, and sear on each side for 2-3 minutes.
I routinely still overcook my steaks. It’s very easy to do. I’m worried about the meat being undercooked or too rare, and half the time I end up making a medium-well steak instead of a medium rare one.
