Catalogue of Cropsey's works in oil covering 1842 - 1863. Cropsey was a major Hudson River School painter who lived from 1823 - 1900. His work can be found in all major collections of 19th century American art. The paintings have been meticulously researched by the Newington-Cropsey Foundation and presented with full color images when possible. This volume includes over 300 images of paintings and includes an extensive biography of the artist by Foundation Director Anthony Speiser. Included in the appendixes are lists of known works, chronology of Cropsey's life and paintings, as well as a full index and comprehensive bibliography. This volume is the first of a three volume set. Volume I covers the first 20 years of the artist's career, encompassing almost 800 works in oil.
