Una delle poche opere disponibili in commercio con un prezzo più o meno abbordabile dedicate al giavanese, lingua austronesiana paralta a Giava e in altre parti del mondo (v. Suriname) da un totale di approssimati 75.000.000 di persone. Lingua che vanta una ricchissima letteratura, codificata attraverso i secoli nelle diverse fasi storiche della lingua, tanto da poter parlare di giavanese classico scirto in sillabario Kawi. Il testo in questione presenta il giavanese attuale parlato in situazioni quotidiane (curioso il capitolo dedicato al vocabolario da usare in caso si dovesse assistere alle esequie di qualcuno....!) esponendo il vocabolario del registro formale e quello di registro informale. Non è una vera e propria grammatica ma un testo di riferimento per muovere i primi passi alla scoperta di questa lingua assolutamente sconosciuta eppure parlata da un considerevole numero di persone, tanto da essere anniverata tra quelle più parlate al mondo. Un must per un orientalista interessato a questioni austronesiane; da leggere per tutti coloro interessati all' Insonesia e alle sue differenti realtà culturali e linguistiche.
