Grey-scale photo. Model is fully dressed. Vibrant blue title, bold white author text. Good composition, catches the eye. Clean and legible. Synopsis is interesting and gives just enough on the characters that you already want to cheer for them to find their HEA.

As the synopsis implies, this has a first-person POV - alternating between Jax and Candice.

This is the first time I've read this author and am immediately and already in love with her at 6% for the use of one witty comeback from Candice, directed at Brent; a line that is on my favorite coffee mug... about a lower body part being jealous of another body part. Loved it.
Jax is the black sheep of his wealthy, pretentious, political family. Candice is an unwilling pageant queen. Together they find kindred spirits; their other half. Unfortunately, having grown up as the constant "disappointment", Jax truly believes that he does not deserve Candice and flees after one passionate night together. Years later, they nearly bump into one another, literally. They have the chance to reconnect, but they're both afraid of showing their true feelings and getting hurt.
The whole of each character was great, they were developed and somewhat complex, however there were too many games; hot-and-cold, push-and-pull, for far too long. The chemistry lingered in the background, but it felt too little. The games they played with one another nearly turned me off to them both. The secondary cast was a lively, fun bunch. Dialogue was okay, if not a bit rowdy at times. A lot of name calling among friends, a less common thing in the states. The plot contained plenty of content, with elemental depth and enough dimensions to keep the reader engaged. The writing style was smooth and the story moved fluidly along. The important conflicts are finally resolved, whereas there were some things that never need to be touched again and can be left to rot as they were. There was a lot in this story that I had gotten right off - Maddison was a no-brainer. I knew something was going to happen with Joseph, though I'd thought it would end worse. I can say with all certainty that the only surprise was Gina. The conclusion was solid enough, though I wish it would have ended later... but there were no loose ends or cliffhangers.
Overall, it's a fairly enjoyable read if you can get passed the petty games and insecurities, outright lies and those of omission, and the transparency of the plot. The story itself is good and the writing style is smooth and easy to read.

Unhappy with his life, he contacts Candice again, but she's so upset with him, she rejects his attempts to get in contact with her. She rejects him again or so he believes when he tries to pour out his heart to her in a letter which is returned unopened. More time passes. We get to see how he and Carter from Bastard first meet and their friendship over the years.
Thus begins years of these two finding one another again. There's their friendship, then disappointment, betrayal, heartache, you name it, this book has it. I spent most of my time hurting for them, emotionally torn apart for them and wanting to grab them and bang their heads together. So much happens in this story, so many years pass and so much wasted opportunity. I really enjoyed this story although it drove me crazy waiting to see if I was going to get the happily ever after I so desperately wanted for Jax and Candice.
It was love at first sight when Candice and Jax meet but fear of losing their bond of best friends keeps them from telling each other how they feel. When the fear becomes a reality can they find their way back to friendship and love?
Jax wants to live his life the way he wants too. His parents want him to follow in his fathers footsteps and become a politician and live up to their standards and social ladder. The only person that believes in him is his best friend Candice who he is madly in love with but is afraid to tell her because he doesn't want to lose her. She is like him in many ways, wants to live her life and not do what her mother wants her to do. She is on the wild side and tells you how it is. She also is madly in love with Jax but he doesn't know that either.
This book was funny, heart warming and also heart breaking. I laughed and cried and prayed for the happily ever after.
I highly recommend reading Jax and all of Jodi's other books as well. You will not be disappointed.
AWESOME job Jodi!!! I love all of your books but this is my favorite. I hold much love for you <3
Jax is is an all consuming, heart felt, rip your heart out and put it back together read that will have feeling like you've just ridden the most fantastic roller coaster ever.
Jaxson/Jax Albright has had a privledged life, and with that comes the expectations from his loveless parents to be what they want him to be and not what he wants to be. Through it all his best friend Candice has stood by his side, encouraged his dreams and been a constant support to him.
One night changes everything and the friendship they have is shattered. Years pass and they run into each other again, both feeling the same toward each other but not being able to tell the other how they feel. Just when things are finally coming together for them a secret that has been kept for years will rip them apart again and shatter both of them.
This is a book about Friends to Lovers and second chances. Its a love story that will stay with you and make you think of how life can change in the blink of an eye and that you have to fight for what you want and when you do have it you cherish it and never take it for granted. (less)
