About the Author
Betty Ward Cain is a published author, musician and retired teacher. Mrs. Cain has worked with kindergarten students for over 30 years. She comes from a long line of ministers, musicians, teachers and song writers. Mrs. Cain grew up in a minister’s home. Her father (Rev. T. N. Ward) and grandfather (Rev. L. M. Justice) were Church of God ministers. She desires to pass on her Christian heritage and bring the values she learned during her childhood to children today. The author became a Christian when she was only 5 years old. She has spent most of her life in some type of ministry as a Sunday School teacher, soloist, choir member, children’s choir director, vacation Bible school teacher, and has held most positions in her church. Mrs. Cain began writing several years before she retired from teaching. She had never believed in her abilities until taking a writing class from Dr. Cliff Schimmels, an accomplished writer. He gave her the encouragement she needed. Mrs. Cain lives with her husband, Jay, in Cleveland, TN. They have one son, Jeremy, who is married to Beth Grabensteder Cain and the couple has three children. The delight of Mrs. Cain’s life is her three grandchildren. This book was inspired by a sermon, “Be encouraged” delivered by Rev. Jason Browning at Westmore Church of God, Cleveland, TN on Sunday morning, June 9, 2013. Pastor Jason shared an encouraging note from a church member given to him many years ago. He keeps it on his bulletin board as a reminder of God’s love and care. Envelopes had been distributed throughout the church, so when he finished reading the note, he instructed the congregation to find their envelope in the pew backs. It contained the 23rd psalm with blank spaces to personalize it with your own name. Then the congregation read the psalm together, inserting their own name. It was such a moving experience, I immediately started seeing the illustrations for this book for children floating through my thoughts. I have used the New International Readers Version of the Bible for the book because it reads so well, even a child can understand it. Then I used the name of my great nephew, Jayden, as the little boy who has his own thoughts about what the verses mean to him. This was a worshipful and meaningful experience for me as I wrote and illustrated this book. I hope it will be as much of a blessing to you and your child as it has been to me.
