College professor Emile can't shake the memory of Jay, the much younger man he met by chance over the summer. Emile never expected to see Jay again, especially not on the first day of the semester in Emile's freshman literature class...

Emile has a comfortable life. His long, tumultuous relationship with a senior faculty member came to a messy end months ago, but he has a tenure-track position, good friends, and an excellent dog. He's hardly going to risk all of that by giving into temptation with a student. Not even one who radiates that rare brand of gentle aggression that Emile has always craved.

Jay grew up as one of a handful of queer kids in a small town. His experience with men is basically nonexistent, but he's sure nothing could have prepared him for the way Emile makes him feel. Even though Emile makes it clear that nothing can happen between them, Jay can't bring himself to take no for an answer...and he's a little worried about what that says about him.

Jaywalking is a MM romance with age difference and a professor/student relationship. This stand-alone short read is approximately 115 pages and has a happy ending.

I totally loved this novella from the opening page. Jay is 18, getting ready for college, and as a clean cut jock feels totally out of place in Laramie’s Bar, which he described as “deliberately artsy.” Jay and Emile’s attraction is immediate and feels very natural. I loved Jay in particular. He’s a wonderful combination earnest, intense, impulsive, and unsure. Emile is a more subtle character, a perfect foil for Jay. I was on tenterhooks, wondering how things would develop.

There were many moments in this book made special by Rachel Ember’s writing, such as when they met again, and the humorous phone call with Jay’s parents. I especially loved how Jay and Emile were attracted both intellectually and physically, but was so disappointed that I didn’t get to experience more. The epilogue came so quickly it was crushing. This was definitely heading towards a 5 star review until it just ended. It’s a happy ending, however I wanted to see all the good stuff that happened between the last chapter and the epilogue. Looking forward to reading longer books by Rachel Ember.

This was intense. Jay and Emile had instant chemistry. It was palpable.
What Emile does not know at the time is that Jay is his student. This put a wrinkle in things.
I wish this book was a bit longer so we could have seen the exploration of their relationship more rather than getting a bit of a quickie at the end 😬

Jaywalking is a short and sweet story about exploring what you need in a relationship, and how to come to terms with a relationship others may see as inappropriate.

Jay is a sweet 18 year old who knows he has strong feelings for Emile even though he doesn’t totally understand why he has those feelings.

Emile is Jay’s professor and even though he has very strong feelings for Jay he tries to push them aside.

This is a very low angst, happy story with a great HEA. I’m looking forward to reading the sequel. The ending did seem to come rather abruptly but I still really enjoyed it.

I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review.

When Jay meets a gorgeous guy at a poetry reading, he feels their instant connection. Unfortunately, their planned hookup is not to be because the guy ghosts him when he goes looking for him at their designated meeting spot. But have no fear, because when Jay walks into class, lo and behold, but guess who his new professor is? Yep...

This is a sweet, light D/s read featuring two adorable guys and a dog. It's not heavy or hardcore into the lifestyle if that's what you're looking for, but it's low angst, a bit spicy, and all the characters, from the leads to the secondary characters, are likable and interesting.

Kind of Weird

Most of this book was the two character, Jay and Emile, waxing on about how they couldn't have a relationship. It kind of got repetitive and I felt like we didn't get to know either character all that deeply. This one was hard to get into. I was kind of disappointed by how little we actually see of the two of them interacting with each other, whether sexually or not. I wanted to get to know Bria more. Mostly this book was kind of one dimensional for me. I don't know if I would recommend this book, maybe if you really love angst and will-they-won't-they tropes.

Good, nicely-developed but shorter MM romance between a young college athlete and a professor. Next to no angst and a cute, well-behaved dog named Godot that no one, not even his dogwalker, has to wait for!😊 Nice build-up of tension, their dynamic is not vanilla but includes mild domination, and both guys have likable friends to dish with about their taboo-ish attraction.

I liked the author's writing style and will be looking for more of her work.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the story; this is my voluntary and honest review.

3.5 stars for a nice but too short read

Nice low angst novella featuring age gap, student/professor, mild dom/sub tendencies. I liked both MCs and the dynamics between them, the way Jay was eager to go and fight for what he wanted and the way Emile surrendered at the end. Slow burn was perfectly written but being a couple was not covered - the story skips to the epilogue just after MCs get together. The epilogue was perfect though and I wish we could get more of it.
3.5 rounded to 4 for debut novel, sweet, funny and engaging storytelling, likable and vivid characters- both main and secondary.
