Jaz was raised in Harlem, daughter of a preacher, and has close family ties - Very close since they all live next to each other. But in a time of crisis that back up is what made her into who she is: A strong woman, one that has compassion in helping others, and a strong voice in times of crisis. She is a licensed therapist in helping couples with marital problems. Of course her career path helps pave the way when aliens take over earth.
There is less written on Jaz's two husbands Mavet and Xentix. The story revolves around them adding a third husband, Tandar. Just the bare minimum is listed on Tandar - That he is a war hero, a leader and in charge of his own ship, honorable, and of course handsome. He is the blood brother to Mavet and is meeting up with his old friend as well as meet this Earthling woman, Matriarch Jaz. The story focuses on cultural issues both from Earth's perspective and Kadothian. There's a few incidents to see how the two races are intermingling. There are political moves at play and things aren't always as they seem. This was a nice alien / earthling space opera type with ménages as the norm. Everything is consensual, no bondage, and Jaz isn't the main focus of the guys - The guys get it on with each other, too. It's an equal opportunity ménage.
I was disappointed Casey didn't pop in. I realize they probably don't know each other but you'd think as the series continues there'd be a way to catch up with main characters. I was also curious to see if husband and wife pairs on earth are considering a warrior or two to their mix or if these pairings are only an Earth female with Kadothian guys. I was especially wondering what happened to Raul and Christie, the couple in the beginning of the story. Will most of the family groups settle in the Bel'Tan galaxy or will they settle on earth? Will they be able to have kids? - Dan's Wife
That evil mother-in-law is something every race has. !!
Jazmine Brooks is one of the first earthlings that bonded with a Kadothian male and also bonded/married Tandar, a second man. Polyamorous relationships are the normal for Kadothians and something greatly desired by Kadothian males. Earthlings also have to make the tough decision to leave their friends, family, and their planet to be with their soulmate(s) and get past the morals and society norms that are taught on Earth. Jaz is an ambassador on the Kadothian reaping ship, where she helps with the cultural differences between the Kadothians and their earth brides. Although an ambassador, Jaz must confront her own issues regarding the way she was raised on Earth. One of them being that love in all forms is acceptable. Once bonded, they “feel” each other body, mind, and soul! The bonding also seems to awaken various psychic abilities within the Earth females. Earth brides cause many rumors to run rampant along with anti-Earth movements made in fear. While being courted by one of her bondmate’s blood brothers, Jaz must also face another trial while keeping her family together.
I recommend reading these books in order. Casey’s Warriors describes ‘The Event’ that brought the Kadothian reaping ship near Jupiter and Saturn. Jaz’s Warriors is a fast read that was impossible for me to put down. The characters are far from perfect. The imperfections make it for a fun read. Between the cultural differences, the new Kadothian protocols that must be learned, and the earthlings’ slang, Ann brings her world to life! I felt like I was on the reaping ship myself, I worried along with Jaz and her bondmates when Jaz had to face the high council, and I wanted to have a talk with Tandar myself for jumping to conclusions. This author has the most amazing ability to pull you into the world she creates with ease. She did not disappoint me in the slightest bit with Jaz’s Warriors, and I cannot wait for the next in the series about Paige. Jaz’s Warriors, actually the Bondmates series as a whole, is something I will read again and again.
Jaz’s Warriors is a novella #1.5 in the Bondmates series by Ann Mayburn.
This was a very short novella ending at around 67-70%. The rest of the book is filler with the first chapter of Casey's Warriors and author/book promotions.
We meet Jaz in Casey’s Warriors. I liked her the moment she was introduced. She’s got spunk and is very friendly to all the new arrivals. She already has two husbands, so she understands the culture differences and shock of having more then one man. She also plays a major role in helping the earth women who are brought aboard the Kadothian Reaping Ship adjust to the new lifestyle.
As for the story it’s short, quick, and very steamy. We get a little tension between a few people, the rumors going around are meant to sabotage the bonding of earth women to the alien men, and a small conflict arises that Jaz’s administrative duties must resolve. All of this is happening while she is intruded to and trying to bond with Tandar whom Mavet one of her husbands is blood brother too. He wants her to choose Tandar as a third husband. We also see a few previous characters from the first book pop in and a new character is introduced that will be featured in Page’s Warriors. The sex scenes are very hot, very steamy, and well written.
I enjoyed Jaz’s Warriors. I would have liked it to be a full book. I felt it could have been made longer, but with novella’s we just get a taste of the world and characters. It was a nice addition to the series. I am curious to read Page’s Warriors.
