Just about every song on this CD is just wonderful and masterfully done. The quality of the recording, the instruments and the musicians is superior. It is very sultry without being languid or sluggish. Great rhythms are married to intriguing melodies to move you subtly and keep you from getting bored. Perfect music for a jazzy cocktail party, or a steamy night home with someone special. Highly recommended!

The entire album is a "latin jazz" must have...but there are two stand outs ~ "CORCOVADO", featuring Charlie Byrd and Ken Peplowski, this alone is worth the price of admission, two classic musicians with a never-to-be-forgotten duet...the other is ~ MANHA DE CARNAVAL (SUNRISE), over four minutes of pure esctasy from sultry style of Susannah McCorkle, what a great loss of this memorable interpreter of lyrics, who passed away this year in May, she will be sorely missed...she had the free-spirit of Ella!
Hats off to producers John Burk & Chris Dunn, mastered by George Horn and Concord Jazz, mixing the essential ingredient into every release, quality first and foremost...can always count on them to come up with great and unforgettable moods in jazz...a note to Concord, we need more of the same!
You might try other Concord Record titles, all worthy of a good listen ~ "Most Requested Songs"-Susannah McCorkle (CCD-4976-2)..."Communion"-John Patitucci (CCD-4970-2)..."Both Sides of the Coin"-Cal Tjader (CCD2-4975-2)..."Midnight Blue"-Jimmy Bruno Group (CCD-4980-2)...check out my reviews on amazon.com/music.

I am not a jazz afficionato but the songs in this album are beautiifully arranged and they just light up my day when I play them. My favorite is "How Insensitive". The touch of the piano is light, the counterpoint just makes me beam. Just wonderful!

Wow! This is a compilation of latin music that is absolutely superlative. I bought it at the same time as 4 other CDs. Two of the five turned out to be winners; and I usually really like 10 or 15 percent of what I acquire. The other winner was Cocktail Party (Beegie Adair and Friends).

This music on this disk is lively at times but always relaxing. Most of the music features piano in the lead or in prominent accompaniment of woodwinds. There are some vocals sprinkled in, all in Spanish. The artistry is excellent without exception. While this can be characterized as "mood music," don't get the idea that it is elevator music. It has too much personality. It's the kind that won't bore you to focus on, but also won't
be overbearing if you're having a conversation. It's great background music for a party -- perfect to have playing in a media room or upscale home theater.

I'm a hardcore audiophile, and this is superb audio. I rip CDs like this and play them from a server. The top four or five percent go in a special folder I call "high end." This entire disc makes the grade. I'd buy it in HD digital or vinyl if it were available; the music and sound are that good.

Great songs, great performances. I have a weakness for Brazilian music. This CD is beautiful, perhaps someone else won't share my same feelings for it, but like lit a lot, have listened to it almost every day, even bring it to work to listen to it while I am on break.

The entire Jazz moods series are fantastic, I am a musician and have a huge collection of music, but I find these CDs to be very pleasing.

For theory books, I'd recommend those by William Duckworth, and those looking to take their first step into music may want to consider the chromatic harmonica...you can find free info and videos at MASTERSOFHARMONICA.COM

I've found it's difficult to recommend music to others --- tastes vary so greatly. But of the few Brazilian music CDs I've collected so far, this is the best. It is a compilation consisting of previously released cuts from the Concord collection of artists (which always means high quality). It is smooth and easy in the Sergio Mendes vein; no Tito Puente-like high-energy cuts here.

I play the CD frequently especially when I have people for dinner. It sets the perfect mood for dining with friends.
