First off the cover is completely misleading. A picture of a freshly shaven, groomed, man in a suit doesn't exactly convey the fact this is a historical book.
Second... it wasn't even romance.
Third.... its not a full length novel.
Peter has been 'courting' Emily for a year. For the previous two weeks before the story starts he has been sleeping with an stage actress named Lilith. He literally sleeps with Lilith one night... gets up the next morning and goes to propose to Emily.... then that same night is back in bed with Lilith. There is no way that this kind of repeat behavior is redeemable. Peter was a POS cheating d-bag. I'm all for a rich guy poor girl story but not when the poor girl lets herself be prostituted out. This wasn't romance. This was a jerk sleeping with someone he knew NOTHING about then all the sudden being in love with her. There was not a single likable character in the whole book.
