This is NOT the essential guide to the force
on January 17, 2008
This book is more of a synopses of all the existing Expanded universe and Existing movies. There is some fantastic artwork but if your looking for a book that goes heavily into the differences between Dark and Light side this is not it. I would say this is more of a history of the major Light and Dark side force users from all the other books/games/etc. If your looking for a philosophical reason for the two Force paths I'd go elsewhere.
This book I think is a good book for those of you who may have only read a few of the expanded universe and would like a good timeline and a decently written overview of books/games/etc that you may have not read.
The book by no means is a required part of a Star Wars collection but for all that, its not horrible. I wish the book came in hardcover as the artwork itself is very good and I think of it more as an artbook for Star Wars than a book covering the philosophical differences. So its great for the art, its a good filler for any books/games/etc that you've missed but its not great at philosophy which I would think any "Essential" guide would try to be.
