Boy, do I feel slow on the uptake...I've seen this film twice now, and I just got the 'other' meaning of the license plate on the Creeper's truck. I guess if it were a snake, it would have bit me...oh well...I may not get there the quickest, but I will get there...eventually. Jeepers Creepers (2001) is a fun, interesting, stylistic film that runs out of gas about halfway through, but still had enough going for it to earn critical and commercial success, spawning a sequel, Jeepers Creepers II (2003) which broke Labor Day box office records for that year. Written and directed by the controversial Victor Salva, who also did the chilling horror film Clownhouse (1988) and Powder (1995), Jeepers Creepers brings to life (or death) a new figure in the Hollywood creature pantheon with the Creeper, a demonic looking figure that awakens every 23 years and feeds for 23 days, according to legend.
The film stars Gina Phillips as Trish and Justin Long as her brother Derry, traveling together by car a lonely and desolate country highway on their way home from college. After a scary incident with an old truck, the two witness a sinister, cloaked figure unceremoniously dumping what appears to body sized parcels wrapped in cloth and rope down a large, corrugated metal pipe next to a boarded up church. Also parked nearby is the same truck that nearly ran them off the road earlier. Once past the old church, the two begin to question what exactly they saw, but are soon joined again by the mysterious truck, more intent than ever now to ram their car, and drive them off the road. After losing the truck, the two go back to the church, despite Trish's protests, to investigate. Derry proceeds to do something stupid, and see something no human was mean to see...oh, he did confirm what they originally thought, that the figure was indeed dumping bodies down this large drain, but that's just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. What other secrets are uncovered? What is the nature of the creature? Do Trish and Derry survive long enough to get help?
I thought the makeup and such on the Creeper looked quite good and suitably malevolent. And the revelations revealed about this character came at a nice, even clip as the plot unfolded. There were a number of minor points where one could argue that the plot is weak or very thin, and I would have a hard time disagreeing, especially during the last half hour of the film. I really enjoyed the scenes that focused on something in the foreground, but provided enough leeway on the screen to see something in the background, even if it was fuzzy and out of focus, before the characters on the screen understood what was happening. Cheap scares are had here, as things pop out `and go boo!' but there is also a nice build up of real tension throughout the film, along with a smattering of comedy, usually of the sarcastic kind, to temper the horror. The weakness of the film comes from the predictability of the second half of the film. The original beginning had brought forth high hopes, but these hopes diminished slightly as the film eventually tread the path repetition as most end up doing, but at least this one did so with style and professionalism most uncommon with those in the same genre. You may recognize Justin Long from TV's Ed were he plays Warren Parker Cheswick. It's pretty much the same affable character played in this film, but a little bit older and a little more cynical. Gina Philips is quite lovely, with her flowing, brownish hair and doe eyed appearance that conflicts with her more cynical than her brother attitude. Both actors did a wonderful job, showing a mixture of inherent and hard earned talent, the kind gained through lots of work and dedication.
The picture here, available in both wide screen and full screen, looks wonderful and crisp. Special features include theatrical trailers, a photo gallery, deleted, extended, and alternate scenes, behind the scenes featurettes (six), and a commentary track with director Victor Salva. Many of these features are located on the flip side of the disc, with the film being on the other side. I guess the one thing I took away from this film more than anything else is if you see a darkened figure dumping what appears to be bodies down a sewer pipe next to an abandoned church, just keep on moving. You can make a report at the next town, for sure, but avoid actually crawling into the pipe to confirm what you already know.

Fun ride, on the country back road. Where did you get those eyes.Best of the JC franchise. The chemistry between siblings bring this film into a test of a ride home.Darn transmission in that car sure did get abused. Oh, it's a bad chevy imp failure.Just the lonely countryside roads have a scary feel to them in normal life, as forced family rides as kids.

So many horror films are made each year and too many of them follow predictable tropes. For example, there’s the party boys/girls, the smart ones, the creeper hillbilly, etc. Jeepers Creepers from 2001 was really original. It featured Justin Long as Denny Jenner and Gina Philips as Trish Jenner making their way home from college when a giant truck suddenly roles up behind them terrifying the sister and brother as it honks and tries to go around them on the highway. They run into the truck a second time, see its mysterious driver dumping a body into a pipe, and then get chased by him. This sets up the plot as the driver is actually a beast who becomes obsessed with hunting down the siblings.
The movie works on several levels. First, Long and Philips play a convincing duo. At the start for instance they are playing road trip games and arguing with each other over who saw a certain car first. Second, the monster was unique and scary. Like any good horror movie, it was also slowly revealed. Third, there were all kinds of twists and turns that created some real tension that only the best in the genre obtain. The movie was able to keep that going all the way to the closing scene as well, which is quite a feat. All together that makes for a great monster flick.

I liked the pacing. There was always something happening.
I disliked the stupidity of the mc, how do you go from calm and collected to a whiny baby afraid to speak? It's dumb. A guy with the initial balls to do what the mc did, would have been calm in his deliverance of information to his sister as he should have already been prepared to see terrible things.
The sister was more rational at times which made me even more pissed at the male mc when he was disregarding the warnings of the woman over the phone. And his sister was trying her best to get any kind of information of the situation.
Also the scene in which the guy finds the song on the radio and tells the sister of it only then, and stupidly recites the lyrics as if to confirm it is the song, all without paying attention to anything odd around him that might tell him to run like the woman said. So stupid.
Mc telling the girl to calm down when she was making sure the freak of a monster was dead was also weird. I would have expected any normal person to say, "wait, we must squash it's head in like a watermelon".
But... Compared to the texas chainsaw massacre(2003) the characters in this movie are geniuses so I feel I can never go so low as to give it a 1. To it's credit, I liked the design and look of the monster. Not quite as scary as the Jeepers creepers with the bus scene but decent. It was enjoyable if you could remove all the idiocy and mental breakdowns.

Jeepers Creepers Blu-ray region free.

Gina Philips and Justin Long play brother and sister, where on choosing to take the quieter country roads back home for their summer break, they are soon waylaid by a seemingly unstoppable stalker.
The Blu Ray release of this supernatural tale looks really good in comparison to the 2001 DVD release, and also has an additional two extra minutes running time. Though as a long-time fan of this film, I found it difficult to pinpoint exactly where these extra minutes were.
Although Amazon highlights this release as region A, it is actually region free and plays fine on my region B player.

Jeepers Creepers has a lot going for it, and some of its obvious flaws are quite knowing, you feel, without ever being slick. It is obvious that the brother and sister make wrong moves at almost every turn, and that these are not very convincing, but this is part of the effect, offsetting the careful characterisation which comes through the pretty good dialogues. The basic premise is two teenagers trying to avoid some maniac on the loose, driving around in a very stylish old Cadillac with a faulty gearstick that makes a speedy getaway not an option. If the gore factor is not too much to the fore, this is no bad thing - it is quite frightening enough. Tension is what you feel above all, and a certain bizarre tone that takes in various undercurrents that are interesting to watch out for - if you were scared witless, they would go by the board. The director Victor Salva has a distinctive way of shooting and gets a lot of different notes into his scenes, including a certain tenderness and feeling of intimacy for his characters, even if they have a brattish side as well. It is very well poised. This is much to be preferred, I think, to the all-out disgust of other horror films where the sheer sadism overrides imagination and genuine surprises. Jeepers Creepers certainly packs those in, often at key points when you least expect them. Gina Philips and Justin Long are very good in the leads, and it is good to see Eileen Brennan pop up after her moving performance in The Last Picture Show decades before.

Thrilling suspense horror
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on August 5, 2010
For many people, this fell apart completely halfway through, when the killer was revealed. They were expecting a standard serial killer slasher, which this definitely is not. For me however, the reveal elevated it to a whole new level of thrills. This is a fantastic movie. When (VERY convincingly played) brother and sister Justin Long and Gina Phillips decide to road-trip home, they're mid-bicker when they're nearly run off the road by one of the creepiest, most messed up looking trucks in movie mythology. Later, they spot its owner from a distance, and decide to investigate, discovering a terrifying chamber of horrors and setting the killer firmly on their trail. From then on it becomes a relentless game of cat and mouse as they attempt to outrun a terrifying killer who seems to know exactly where they are and where they're going...
It's a film of great atmosphere, suspense used to great degree. The killer is kept hidden for most of the film and fear of the unknown is built in savvy style until the director sets him loose in a glorious reveal. Sly comedy crops up occasionally, along with creepy chills in a scene with a bizarre psychic, and many scenes of terror and panic. Long is great as the brother freaking out under pressure, and Phillips makes for a tough, ballsy sister. It's a great tense horror of suspense, shocks and heart. Hugely recommended.

I saw ages ago it is one of the best films I've ever seen at the Cinema. I went in not knowing what it was about at all and just seeing the adverts of it being the scariest film in 10 years at that time, which I thought it was!
Its definately the best one out of the films 1 and 2.
Its about a Brother and Sister travelling home on a motorway somewhere. They drive past an old church and see a man dressed in dark clothing throwing a body down a pipe, into the church. They realise the man has seen them and speed up in the car..but the man is already on there back and chasing them in huge lorry beeping loudly. That in itself is quite scary, they eventually get rid of him, and decide to go back to the church to see if the person is still alive.
They both go back and look down in the pipe but dary (the brother)falls and gets trapped in the building. He looks around for a way out while the sister goes and looks for help. But what Dary discovers in the building... is more dead bodies than he expected! not only that, they're all sticthed accross the walls and the ceiling.
And it gets even better when you realise who or what the man is.. It'll make you jump through it definately worth watching!

ok I agree with most folks opinions, excellent first half but the plot line went & then they went overboard the wrong way.
Yet & it has to be said, the two leads make this film work, this is not scream or hallowean but the injokes, the naratives & the general tension which steadily builds, till you know sooner or later one of them is going to get it, makes it worth watching.
Plus the radio mention already to jeepers creepers, you won't listen to it in the same way again is very true & that ending. Which along with the emotion & anguish of what has been seen & what has not does after the dodgy bit before end, make it worth it.
Justin Long truelly did get the best bit (without giving it away) & more to the point both leads gave awesome performances to what could have been very dull predictable characters. This is not run of the mill horror or that you get a happy ending, its horror re-made & it is done justifibly well bar the plot line & that the two lead actors were the heart & soul throughout-they stole the show actually.
plus the end bit was terrifying for that reason. Not the best, let down in places but this film does have a very dark edge which delivers & the heart felt performances as already mentioned so unbelievably - it does deserve merit more than it has been given & for horror value is worth watching, though from behind a pillow!!
