Johnny Hodges was one of the best with a sound all his own. Moreover, he was invariably surrounded by the best musicians. This is a great collection. Each song is a gem. I have listened to this dozens of times and cannot get enough. It just grows on you. It is a wonderful way to listen to Hodges because there are no clunkers included. Another great collection of Hodges is by Topaz Jazz: Classic Solos, 1928-1942. It includes some of the songs on Jeep's Blues, but many are different.
The four or five best cuts on this are worth the entire album! I especially enjoyed the selections with with Lionel Hampton and Billie Holiday. Also, the last number, "Finesse", is Hodges at his liquid best.
