I am a big fan of Jeff Dunham, and I own every single DVD special he has ever come out with. The last special was disappointing. Some jokes were old or reused in a different and unfunny way. I was starting to think Jeff couldn't come up with anything new. -- Then, "Minding the Monsters" came out. I nearly peed myself several times. All the jokes and stories in this special were new, fresh, and totally funny. The theme is simple -- All of Jeff's characters were given a Halloween theme that best suited them. Walter dressed as Frankenstein, Bubbja J was a One-toothed vampire, Peanut arrived in a Batmobile-type car and appeared as "Bat-nut" with Jose' Jalepeno portraying his version of Robin (which he called Reuben) as well as Peanut's dummy Little Jeff, who was dressed as the Batman villain "The Riddler" (except instead of question marks all over a green outfit, there were little L's all over because Peanut called him, 'Loser-man'), and finally Achmed the Dead Terrorist decked out in drag and trying to act like a blonde bombshell. As usual, Dunham began the show with a solo monologue of his current life and included several hilarious anecdotes about his new fiance', his daughters, and the family dog. The stage set was designed as a haunted house, and each character was presented through a movie-like trailer before being introduced on a different piece of the stage. I felt this presentation was very original, as I said before FRESH, and funnier than I expected it to be. My faith in his comedy has been renewed...

Typically funny, but laced throughout with far too many bitter divorce "jokes", which dampens the fun. Leave the bitterness to Walter who can do it with humor. The segment with Peanut, Jose, and Little Jeff is the standout.
Once again, Amazon, why all the reviews from people who have never seen this DVD? Reviews from fans written months before the release date are useless and dishonest.

This Jeff Dunham and Gang special takes the show where it hadn't gone prior. Specific theme and topics. The theme, also being the title, 'Minding the Monsters" centered on Halloween themed routines and character outfits. This is great stuff if you like halloween..even more so!

Check it out you will love it!

ladies and-a gentlemen what we have here today, is the funniest ventrioloquist comedian on the face of the earth whom can make anybody laugh, ruminate, or even cause ones jaw to drop in totalitarian fear of what happen's to man when an ex-wife loses her sense of reality over a genius whom has been in comedy since his childhood of eight years old.

this is a laugh a minute show from beginning to end, non stop for a metal-headed atheist whom typically does not like black and white horror films.

jeff actually made fun of the very horror films i ignored when i was a kid.

we even finally get to meet his dog roadie in his shark costume and see how crankenstein was made.

Mr. Jeff Dunham? you have a fan for life!!! and for doing nothing more, then being the most honest man in comedy today.

little jeff looking like the joker in the 1960's tv show batman warmed my heart, which is NOT easy to do, considering how apathetic i can be sometimes.

thank you again for so many years of laughter, and food for thought. you are the only presbyterian christian comedian whom plays with puppets and is seemingly a libertarian whom does NOT like a democracy...i don't blame you for a single breath of life or even a quarter of a heartbeat.

you are pure gold and completely priceless.

thank you sir.....may i please have another?

First of all, I am a huge Jeff Dunham fan. He's the best there is at his trade and has single-handedly brought ventriloquisim back to the mainstream of comedy. He's the funniest man to ever drive a "blue Prius" and then talk about it (JD fans will understand the reference).

This DVD is not his best work (I like his Christmas special better), but I really especially enjoyed the extras on this DVD. It is always interesting to see how Jeff is constantly trying to give his fans a look at the behind-the-scenes way he builds and utilizes the technology now available.

The bottom line is that if you are a fan, you will have to have this DVD to add to your Jeff Dunham collection. For those who are thinking of giving Jeff a try, I would recommend getting one of his earlier DVDs first, but no matter which DVD you start with you will laugh your head off. I guarantee it.

I remember the first time I saw Jeff Dunham. I was walking through a department store and they were playing what I later found out was "Spark of Insanity" on a 60" HDTV. I must have sat there for over 20 minutes watching this show, cracking up most of the time! I had to ask a sales associate who this was and where I could get the DVD. I bought "Arguing with Myself" soon thereafter and got "Jeff Dunham's Christmas Special" and "Controlled Chaos" the day they were released on DVD. LOVED them. So I thought "Minding the Monsters" was going to be another good one. Unfortunately, I was so wrong. I got the sense that Jeff phoned this one in, and as a result the humor was not nearly as funny as his prior efforts. I also didn't like the fact that he took several cheap-shots at his ex-wife, whereas in "Controlled Chaos" he took a less direct approach (e.g., Walter wanting to live vicariously through Jeff, Achmed Jr. wishing him good luck with the judge). So much for Jeff taking the high road. And of course, the one thing that really didn't work for me is when he messed with a formula that has worked for him for decades -- he finished with Achmed instead of finishing with Peanut and Jose Jalapeno (and Ugly Ass-Jeff). I should have found it on cable and watched it first. I never would have bought the DVD if I had known.
