This is a very nice jelly roll sampler quilt book. I don't think you could get any nicer patterns gathered together in fact. What I am really disappointed in is that I gave this for a present to a beginning quilter. My issue comes from the fact that the only instruction for triangle units the authors uses is one odd ball Creative Grids ruler. I have no problem if they recommend an 'easy to use' ruler, but they completely disregarded any instruction to those using anything else! When gifting this I included Thangles and then upon my next visit showed her how she could go about doing her triangles with the rulers she already owns. Her first full quilt is lovely. If you're going to base your entire book on one ruler I suggest you sell the thing with it or tell people it's a must have!!

This book is wonderful! There are great blocks created from 2.5" strips with clear instructions and multiple color suggestions. Create classic blocks with modern techniques (Jelly Rolls/strips and rulers). There are patterns for a classic sampler quilt, a quilt of different stars, and even baskets. There are charts for each quilt and block that let you know how many strips of fabric will be needed. The beginning of the book also has a spread with each block featured in the book categorized by size so you can mix and match blocks to create your own unique quilt. I can't recommend this book enough!

Was a bit disappointed in this book. I thought it would be a good quilt book, specifically for using jelly roll strips, since it is titled Jelly Roll Samper Quilts. However, while the quilts will work with jelly roll or strips, I could have gotten the same information off the internet for free as it is just a sampler (random selection) of blocks. I did it give it three stars because at least the useable information is in a single book, easy to follow format, and I don't have to search out the blocks. Actually, I doubt that I will be keeping this book, will probably use it sometime for a gift to a quilting friend.

I've already made two projects from this book - they're stunning but quickly assembled and certainly worth buying the book

The Jelly Roll Sampler Quilts is full of beautiful blocks that can be created from 2 1/2" strips, HOWEVER, there is a disadvantage from using a jelly roll or a balipop to create your sampler. When you break out the strip and create the light, medium and dark contrasts, you may have difficulty coming up with the correct mix after you are halfway through the process. Jelly rolls don't necessarily have repeat strips, which you will need when more than 1 is called for in a block. I'm glad I have this book because next time I will just go to the fab shop to get a couple of fabrics to use as a repeat for each block; the finished quilt will be more cohesive. Explanations are clear as are the diagrams.

I fell in love with this book. I am a beginner quilter, and now I look thru the pages and see a few of the blocks that I would love to make.
I am having a problem finding the multi 45/90 degree ruler. Have any ideas where I can purchase one. thanks Henriette.

I am making plans! I have only quilted for about 5 years and usually pick one type of block and make a whole quilt with the pattern repeated. After looking through this book, I am looking forward to making my first quilt with different blocks. They put them into categories and give you groupings of blocks that are very different and work well together...

This book is beautifully done. Block sizes run from 8 inches to 16 inches for 55 different blocks. Because all of the quilts use only a jelly roll to make the blocks, you end up cutting a lot of little pieces. The authors show two different colorways for the five main quilts so you'll have lots of ideas. My favorite feature is the "Patchwork Ideas" inset that appears on the instruction page for some of the blocks. This gives suggestions for interesting secondary patterns that are created when you repeat this block or combine it with one other block to make an entire quilt. So you really get more than 10 quilts out of this book. I highly recommend it.
