There is no need for me to go into detail about the story line or characters' woes. All of those elements are revealed within the first few pages and the story unfolds and gets better with each chapter.
This was an emotional, sexy, enthralling read. I will be checking out other books in this author's collection!
Enjoyable romantic story about two childhood friends who reunite as adults and become much more. The story is well-written with flawed but lovable characters. Jem is definitely a tortured alpha male with a tendency toward violence to protect those he loves. Devon is running from a violent relationship. She doesn't recognize Jem but he recognizes her as his Angel who tried to protect him before they were separated by circumstances. When she first sees him, she's attracted to him but immediately fears his violent tendencies. One thing that I had trouble with is that she waits so long to ask him his name, even agrees to go out on a date with him without asking his name.
I enjoyed this excellent story and would recommend it to all who love a good romantic read.
That said, I cannot understand women who allow themselves to be emasculated to the point of losing their worth as human beings. Devon is an intelligent woman, who, for reasons best known to her allowed a common boy friend to bully her into submission. Like most abused women, she finds herself trapped in this abusive relationship. Even when she found ways of escape, she still invited Connor back into her life. What was she thinking? That a bully can be redeemed?
What a God sent Jem turned out to be. He too knew what it was to be a victim, and after a childhood experience that left him almost damaged, he turned his fear into his strength, and developed a formidable power that made him a threat to his foes, and a protector to his loved ones.
I know that in writing stories, we are told to show, and not tell. The showing in this story was so relentless, it made the flow very choppy. Otherwise, I enjoyed the read. I couldn’t put it down.
