Product Description

Due to the convenience of deleting unwanted photos and inexpensive media storage, we take a lot more photos than the film era. Today's digital camera puts a lot of stress and loading on the battery, hence the battery grip becomes an essential accessory to most of us. Jenis battery grip uses the same build material as the original manufacture on all its product lines, to ensure a long time trouble free operation with your beloved digital SLR camera. The build quality and ergonomic not only matches the original equipment, there are some added functions on the higher end products that are designed with the professionals in mind. The extra features are not available either from the original equipment or the other battery grip on the market. The S model (Standard) provides the same function/capability as the original equipment. It can take up to two Li-ion battery or 6 to 8 AA batteries (depending on the model) to provide extra power reserved for longer shooting time. Depending on the camera design, some can also increase the continue shooting speed. There is an extra vertical shutter button to provide easy operation when shooting in portrait/vertical position. The control wheel provides the same functions as the original control wheel with easy access when operating in vertical position. The P model (Professional) has all the features in the S model but with some advanced essential functions. There is a clock which not only display time, but also serves as a self-timer or long exposure shutter control that can provide up to 99hr 59min 59sec delay time/B shutter. The SD model (Super Dual Storage) has all the features the P model has except the remote capability, but adds two extra high speed CF slots for people who like to take a lot of photos on a trip. A larger B&W LCD screen is provided to display some of the important shooting information. The grip also does some basic file operation. A high speed USB2.0 connection is also provided.

I'm not sure what the problems might have been with the other reviewer, I'm guessing a malfunctioning device? In any case, I ordered this anyways, and it works exactly as I expected. I had no problems connecting it, and the delay timer works just fine. The only 'trick' seems to be that you have to have the "Shutter release timer" set to at least 1 second, otherwise it won't take any pictures. Therefore, if you want exactly one picture, you also have to set the camera in single-shot mode.

Here are some example settings:

Take 3 pictures, each 5 seconds apart: Set the timer to 5 seconds, elapse time to 1 second, and number of pictures to 3. Camera in single-shot mode.

Take a set of pictures after a 10 second delay, for 3 seconds: Set the timer to 10 seconds, elapse time to 3 seconds, and number of pictures to 1. Camera needs to be in multi-shot mode.

Since there's only one timer (as far as I can tell), the initial delay, and the delay between each picture, is always the same. This is semi-annoying, but I can deal with it (so I'll get a few extra pictures in the beginning that I can throw away, no biggie).

I really wanted this unit to work for my 50D. In the end, the other reviewers' comments proved themselves to be true as I had spotty connections on my very first installation. I was afraid to use it for important events for fear it would "wink out" right at the money shot. Returned it. :-(

The grip does what it is suppose to do. I was a bit disappointed with the fact that the grip comes with an infrared sensor but then neglects to provide a remote or even supply the information necessary to acquire said remote. I eventually found a remote that worked but unfortunately I can only tell you that it was from satechi and that it is designed to work with there camera grips. There remote has no part numbers or frequencies on it and therefore no way to identify it. I had a friend that received it with his grip and coincidentally we found out it worked for this grip.

So, 4 out of 5 stars because of the remote and crappy manual. Product does work well though.

The battery grip loses contact to the camera. This is at least annoying.
Your camera might go off-line right in the moment when you wnat to make a shot - all because of the issue.

Product works great as a side loading battery holder. Forget about the timer stuff and the IR trigger feature. None of that stuff works. It also didn't work for my friend who baught one for their Canon camera as well. Hardly professional as they bill it. More like junk for any timing applications. Not happy at all.
