Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

The founder of the successful Jenny Craig Weight-Loss Centers outlines the weight management system she developed to help clients lose weight, keep it off, and live a healthy, comfortable lifestyle. This safe, sensible program uses food exchanges instead of calories and emphasizes good nutrition, moderate exercise, and behavior modification. In addition, it is easily personalized to fit different weight-loss needs and includes numerous recipes and snack suggestions. Unfortunately, for librarians, though, the book is designed with many fill-ins to involve its readers in a variety of exercises that require them to answer questionnaires, write their thoughts, record their goals and progress, outline their strategies, etc. Although this format is undoubtedly helpful to the reader, it limits the book's shelf life in most libraries.-- Linda Chopra, Cleveland Hts.

From Kirkus Reviews

The proprietor of an international chain of weight-loss centers puts her program in print with this all-round advisory on taking and keeping it off. In context, it's nongimmicky, nontechnical in the extreme, moderate in demands, and sensible- -though that means that the message is also all-too familiar: Set goals that are reasonable and specific; don't diet without exercise; expect and learn from lapses; satisfy your taste with herbs and spices, not fat and sugar; be firm with saboteurs; and so on. In format, though, it is, if not gimmicky, at least busy. Chapters are ``modules''; food groups, following the American Diabetic Association model, are ``exchanges''; and the book is full of menu charts, assignments, self-analysis checklists, quizzes, lists, boxes, and ``Thank you, Jenny Craig'' letters from happy losers. Then there are recipes. None of this can substitute for group pressure or the commitment that comes from paying a boodle and signing up for scheduled sessions--but that could be said of any diet book. This one surely rates a hearing. (Line drawings throughout.) -- Copyright ©1992, Kirkus Associates, LP. All rights reserved.

This is the best book on weight loss I have read. It is not only for weight loss but Jenny Craig gives you tools on how to manage weight. The more responsibility you take for creating your healthy lifestyle the more control you have and the better chance you will have for success. Jenny encourages you to write your thoughts, record your goals, and outline your strategies. You can chart your journey--see where you've been and where you are going. Your success comes from within

This is a good book or should I say manual on the regimen. A few acquaintances were on it and it does work. As every other diet plan ever conceived you have to follow it to get results. That's the bottom line. This is one of the more effective regimens that I am familiar with and it does work. There are no frills, just proven basics here.

I Just ordered this book. I have a copy of chapter 2,and was very impressed. I am very lucky to have the coarthur as my theripist. The information on nutrition is great. The whole food approach is wonderful. All you have to do is count the foods you ate. No calorie counting.

The only secret in this book is how the system works on paper instead of verbally from meetings. There are no revolutionary or radical concepts here, just plain sense and common knowledge.

Sometimes it is helpful just to have what you already know about a subject restated to get a different view. The information in this book is collected and organized in a way that you can use it. There are no radical diets and the use of exercise is just as important as diet.... There are a few Appendixes and some menus.

I bought the book because the publication date was listed as May 2013; however, when I opened the book, it was the same book that I have as hard copy from 1992. Nothing inside the book had changed. I returned it because of this.
