Editorial Reviews

The album's 25 tracks combine songs recorded by Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons with music recorded by the Broadway cast. (In 2005, Rhino released the platinum-selling Original Broadway Cast Recording, which won the 2007 Grammy® Award for Best Musical Show Album.) This 2014 collection opens with Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons performing the group's #1 song, the 1975 smash "December 1963 (Oh, What A Night)." All of the group's #1 hits are here, including separate performances of "Sherry" and "Dawn (Go Away)" by both Frankie Valli and Four Seasons and the Broadway cast.

This is one of the best movie soundtracks I have owned. Instead of just having all the songs that played in the movie, the soundtrack mixes tracks from the movie, the original Broadway soundtrack and actual tracks from the real Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. Some tracks even fuse two versions at once into one seamless track. Those who complained about the instrumental (the saxophone/horn parts) for "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You" in the movie version will find the track polished up on this soundtrack. I actually like the slower intro to the song in the movie version. This is like your favorite Greatest Hits CD.

The best way to play it is straight through. There is no bad song on this soundtrack. If you're a fan of The Four Seasons, the Broadway show, and/or the movie, this soundtrack is all them wrapped up in one great CD.

I have no idea what it is about those songs of the 60’s and ‘70’s, except that they remain in your memory and are a part of your DNA. I suspect that many who attended the movie came because of the music, which is the highlight of the film.

The soundtrack and motion picture is based off the Tony Award Winning Jersey Boys, with three of the stage stars reprising their role in the film version. John Lloyd Young, who plays Frankie Valli, is fantastic. He won the 2006 Tony Award Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical. He carries that talent and performance well onto the screen, frankly making the movie a show stopper. The others in the cast who played members of the band were no less talented, and this CD is filled with fantastic music.

"Can't Take My Eyes Off You" was undoubtedly my favorite for entertainment value. Anyway, if you saw the movie and want the music to continue, this is a great listen.

I loved the film and definitely enjoyed the music from the film, but the dissappointment here was that not all of the movie's versions of the songs are included. "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" is the broadway version, not the version from the film. The same goes for other songs and some songs that weren't part of the film are included chronologically in the line up.

The songs aren't bad but I would've liked the entire film version collected, with a section for the broadway songs after and such. If I'd known ahead of time I would've just bought the broadway recording rather than this edition.

The hightlight here is that there are some songs that are intermixed and spliced with Valli's original version. "Who Loves You" starts out with the film/broadway version and the entire middle section is Valli's original and ends back with John Lloyd Young's version.

If you wanted just the film's versions of the songs I'd say skip this album or pick up the broadway recordings. If you're not a stickler and want to hear the spliced songs then this is your best bet.

very unusual assortment of tracks..some original 4 seasons...some original Frankie Valli...A few songs from the movie...Plus new arrangements with John Lloyd Young over dubbed with Frankie Valli's original...There are even songs from the Broadway show that did not make it into the film..Fallen Angel...and Beggin'...There have been a few dozen different versions of Beggin' in the last few years...The one on this CD is possibly the best yet..worth the price for this track alone...So while this really can not be called a movie soundtrack..it is fantastic and full of old and new arragements

I had the chance to review the touring company of the Broadway musical "Jersey Boys" three times and last week I saw the new Clint Eastwood- directed film. I loved the former and was hugely disappointed with the latter. With that said, I'm here to review, and comment on, this CD which was released by Rhino yesterday. I hope to provide some useful info for potential buyers.

I see three reviews posted already., one is of the MP3 version of the album. Amazon groups ALL formats of an album (physical CD and MP3) together, so it's always good to note what version the reviewer is referring to. I'm covering the Physical CD.

What is not mentioned in the other reviews is that this is not a "soundtrack" in the traditional sense. Rhino clearly states on the FRONT of the package: "Music from the Motion Picture and Broadway Musical Plus Original Recordings by Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons". And that's what fills the 24 tracks on this hour long CD. The Broadway show was a "musical", a group of songs held together with some dialogue. The film is a drama which features many songs (not all complete). That's a big difference. Three of the four "Four Seasons" in the film are played by the same actors as the Broadway musical.
I really am enjoying this CD, but then again, I liked the Broadway Original Cast too! But , even with the complicated credits listed in the 8-page booklet (that is inserted in the CD) - which fills two of the six inside pages with color photos from the film - can't really tell me which tracks are from the film and which are from the musical. I will tell you that the final production number from the film ("Who Loves You") is the version here- and sounds GREAT!
